Guy's - just a quickie - should my car be fitted with the self levelling suspension fitted to the rear?
2001 2.2 CD Auto saloon
-
No. Only standard on the Elite model
-
nope. elites only afaik. Look in to the rear shock above the rear wheel. If you can see air lines with a small R clip on the shock body then yes, but not likely on a cd. Stock shocks are alot cheaper anyway.

Thanks for the prompt response RobG.
Your info is exactly what I was looking for.
I have a problem with my newly fitted towbar and now know to look for another cause.
Thanks again :)

cheers you answered that for me too!! :y

What's the tow bar problem?

Hi Alexandjen - I'll try to be as precise as possible without going OTT!
Had the car less than 1 year & always liked the way it sits slightly lower than other Omega's I've seen.
A recent camping trip showed that. when fully loaded, the car seemed to sit even lower (the top part of the rear wheels were hidden way up inside the wheelarch!!)
On my return, I had a friendly garage owner look at it as he suspected that the rear coils springs could be broken. On inspection however, they were not but he did advise that both rear shocks were duds.
I replaced both the shocks and rear springs with the parts coming from a local motor factors. This did improve the unloaded ride height by some 2.5cms.
I recently fitted a towbar from Towsure and on my first trip out at Easter, I discovered that the car still sat way too low.
I happened to spy another Omega with a towbar fitted in the local Tesco carpark the other day and, rather cheekily, got the tape measure out and measure the top of the wheel arch to the ground & the top of the towball to the ground & compared thses with those from my own car.
The tesco Omega was only 1cm higher at the wheel arch but the top of the towball was a huge 9cms higher than mine.
I'm looking for suggestions on how to raise the height of the towball. Any ideas?
:(

..... but the top of the towball was a huge 9cms higher than mine. ......
Were they similar type towbars ie both swan necks or 2 bolt flange type. There are min & max heights that the ball is supposed to be at when the car is unloaded.
Just measured mine, it's 480mm/19" to the top of the ball. Mine's a deatachable Westfalia (fitted at last Kevin ::) :y)

Both towbars were of the 2 bolt flange type.
I took three measurements - highest point of the wheel arch to the ground, lowest point of the towbar under the fuel tank to the ground & top of the towball to the ground.
Tesco car was 66.5cm - 20 cm - 41 cm respectively.
Mine was 65.5cm - 15 cm & 32 cm.
I've doublechecked to make sure it was the correct one & there were absolutely no problems when fitting.
I was thinking of buying a set of "sprin assistors" from Towsure to see if that stops the cars dropping so much. :-/

Just measured my car from the ground to the wheel arches. 26" on driver's sdie & 261/2" on passenger side :-? :-?, which is pretty much the same as both your car & the Tesco car. Different mounting of my towbar though, so there's nothing underneath to measure. :y
As long as the ball height is correct, I wouldn't worry.

iirc someone on here has gas assisted shocks, has a type valve in the boot, just pump up the rear end with an air line. Wont fix the low tow bar though.
Any spacers involved in fitting that could be arranged differently to add hight?
Did you buy it new? Could it be bent?
