Hi All,
I'm trying to do the cam cover gaskets on my 1999 2.5 V6 petrol mini facelift omega and am stuck at the last hurdle. Everything stripped off/out but I cannot budge the covers. Is there a simple method to pull them off? The covers have never been off as I've owned the car since new and they seem pretty well stuck.
Thanks,
Mike.

Make sure all 8 bolts are out and then start at a corner wiggling whilst pulling

All 8 bolts removed and it's had a good tapping with a rubber mallet while I've been tugging via the plug lead holes. Do you know if the plastic tabs at the ends, used to hold the plug cables, would stand a good tug with some string through the hole?

once the 8 bolts have been removed it is just a case of breaking the seal that has formed using the silicone that was used last time.

Ok, thanks for the replies. I'll keep on tugging & wriggling.

keep going - mine were stuck fast but lots of tapping with a rubber mallet and it finally gave in :y

You need a bigger
hammer mallet! ;D ;D ;D
As Mr Haynes says ... judicious tapping! ;) ;) ;)
-
Try a flat bladed screwdriver under an end gentle prising it up, it will eventually come off :y

Lifting the edge on the inner V whilst tapping did it. And it looked like I'd struck oil in the plug holes!
Is there any waiting time between applying the black sealant and putting the covers back on?

ABout an hour is fine....so the time taken to re-assemble!
