seems it's a plug-in module (http://www.shacktools.com/sykespickavant-acr4-p-5643.html) (about £100) for a diagnostic computer.
you also need a cable (http://www.shacktools.com/sykespickavant-acr4-harness-p-5610.html) (about £60)
both of which plug into the ACR4 diagnostic computer (http://www.shacktools.com/sykes-acr4-fault-code-reading-testing-users-p-4038.html), a bargain at £1700 but out of the range of most DIY mechanics!!! OTOH, it does appear to be a universal type so in theory you should be able to buy the modules and cables for other makes and models of car and then use it on them too.
so total price of the setup is about £1850 .... you'd best get saving then .... ;D
