Title: Headlight Lens Replacement

Well.I spent several hours yesterday with wet,n,dry,polishing compound and lots of effort and the result of my headlight restoration is quite frankly poor.
Not only are the lenses very badly scratched but I also have marks which look like stains within the lenses.I am sure I have seen a thread regarding removing the lenses and then resealing them.
My question is if I bought a set of cheap projector headlight with decent lenses could I remove just the plastic skin from my xenon hids and replace just the outsides entirely..I am sure it will give the car a better appearance and improve the lighting,as I think to buy new xenons would be very expensive.
