have you asked at a windscreen fitting place? It's just that when I had one fitted to my Senator some years back the invoice for the insurance was somethinhg like £250. One of the ABS lads had one fitted to his Senator at a similar time but NOT via insurance & he paid £90
Like in a lot of instances, companies lay it on thick if it's going through an insurance company! >:(

Got my facelift estate done by Autowindscreens three weeks ago. (Leeds area - although they have btranches all over the UK) £140 all in. They came to me. The screen is identical to factory fit. (Apart from GM logo on bottom of screen) Good job done. I was well pleased. Especially since Autoglass had quoted me £350.00!!! :y

Bloody hell. You could insure it for less on another policy for a year. Pay by instalments. Replace the screen and then cancel the policy for less than that.
But you wouldnt do that, that would be immoral.... or something.

Dont let RAC near it, they couldn't glaze a green house.

completely agree: bunch of drunken muppets

Don't go near national windscreens either, fitted my windscreen incorrectly and only used stanley knives to get it out, they cut up all my roof card and windscreen inside side trims. Got it refitted, but they denied it was them that cut up the roof card and trim. never ever again.

Hmm I'm starting to wonder how difficult it is to fit windscreen. surely someone on here can do a how to....
-
To refit it yourself it is a git of a job, you have to cut the old one out and glue the new one in. I tryed it once never again that stuff sticks to everything. better letting the profis doing it or someone that has done a few. Hope it helps. Dave ;)

I my experience the best thing to do is to make an appointment, time allowing and go to there (who ever you like) depot, ie not the mobile fitter. They tend to have a closer eye on detail, plus they have no excuse if something does go wrong.
As for which company, they can be as bad or good as each other, bit of a lottery.

Hello May I tell you all of my experience. Had my windscreen replaced under an insurance claim 1st class job but it was back next day the screen on my yr 2000 MV6 was GM one with solar protection very much needed to at least protect the interior, especially the leather, yes it had been replaced with a cheaper version. Auto Windscreens did not argue and replaced it with a correct OE spec.Never new the cost and did'nt ask.

I had the windscreen on my 2.6 replaced last month by Autoglass. Price quoted was £450 + Vat but I did mine through the insurance for £60 excess. Can't fault the service though. The guy went to a lot of trouble to ensure it was the correct windscreen etc and the finished job was excellent - no mess. I took mine to their depot to have it done though and left it with them for a couple of days so that they didnt have to rush the job :y
