Any Ideas?
Ive got the gigabytes and address ( thanks to TheBoy)
But i`ll be darned if i can work out to get it off the ground.
I dont really think its for me all the html stuff.....
Are there any sites, packages or companies out there that will build it and if so are we talking realistic money?
Ideally the site needs to be able to host photos and video clips ( easy folks it not what you think) and be easily updated by me. ;D :-X
Dont think it currently needs to have any form of payment/check scenario?
I know we are riddled with IT gurus on here, can any one give me some pointers please?

I do that with a Mac, pretty easy, but haven't tried uploading to a server other than .mac. I'm sure that there are other things for winblows but I haven't bothered looking.

Look into content management systems -- there are loads out there to choose from, I'm no expert though so wait for someone else to pipe up with some recommendations. Basically it's a system that once installed onto the server, allows the administrator(s) easily change the content without delving into the HTML etc. Basically provides a layer of abstraction to make it quicker and easier.
Different systems are optimised to different content types, usually you add plug-ins for the stuff you want.

How about using Notepad!
I did all the coach pages in a DOS text editor!!!!

I did all the coach pages in a DOS text editor!!!!
you need to understand my strengths and weaknesses Martin, I know what i want but have no idea how to do it...
Not in the slightest computer literate im afraid :(

For purely photos, in an album, check out software such as Gallery. It runs on the server, and is updated photobucket style. Not the quickest though.
If its just hosting piccies for here or family etc, just ftp up the image, and link to it that way...

Content management systems, for small sites, tend to be harder than doing it by hand.
There are plenty of free html editors out there, even Word (which you probably have at work) can 'File > Save As HTML' ;)

its going to be for showcasing horses, that will be for sale, so pictures, some videos of jumping etc, background and "blog" on the horses and how they are doing, development wise..
Intention being of "pulling" people in to buy/view with add ons of livery delivery and horse transportation rates etc...
So it needs to be something we can sit down and update easily as and when re photos and text

I would urge Markie to try to build something using the tools he already has to get a feel for what he needs, if that makes sense...

Actually when you know a bit of HTML this is an easy way of modifying an existing page, VERY good for removing all of the rubbish say frontpage puts on.
I am sure there are a few HTML editors which are shareware.
You can upload with XP explorer or FileZilla (shareware).
Do you have Microshaft Orifice? (sorry MS Office)

Have a play with Frontpage
That would probably do
you will need to remove a couple of lines of code from each page and upload out of frontpage as it creates a directory structure on the web site you do not want

Agreed..Even sometimes I use notepad to check .net source files..

Frontpage is Microsoft's HTML Editor, but in very few versions of Office. Word can do it though, but not ideal.
As a test, knock up a quick Word Doc (keep it very simple), and save that as html and upload, see what it looks like?

vi rocks.... once you get over the very steep learning curve.... of which I'm about 5% of the way up ;D

You could use a template. I have used these http://allwebcodesign.com/setup/templates.htm can use notepad to edit most parts
comes with help pages. Support after buying bit iffy. Priced in $$$$ so makes half price at the moment.
