can anyone advise me please on the difference between dexron II and dexron III please?
i went to my local store to buy some ATF fluid, i picked up dexron III thinking it was the best to use, but the chap behind the counter advised me on II for my year omega???
i have been reading on here and most people seem to rate dexron III?! so now i am alittle confused?!

Dex 3 for the tranmission (auto) but Dex 2 for topping up the power steering.

your best best is register as an oof member on opie oils, and buy there fuchs titan 4000 dex3, 10 litres delivered has just cost me £50
-
would the wrong one do any damage or make a difference?

Don't use the wrong one - it won't cost you any different.
Dex3 in the power steering is alledged to damage the seals, Dex 2 in the transmission - rather test on your car than mine ;)
I recommend what Jimbob says :y

As already said:
Dexron 3 (lll) Automatic Gear box fluid.
Dexron 2 (ll) Power Steering fluid.
It is the Law, do not break the Law.

...automatic transmission
but dexII for power steering!!!!!!!!!!

reason dII used in later omegas for PS is because after a particular revision of diii that gm started using, the started seeing pas leaks. as they no longer could (cheaply?) get the older diii, they reverted to dii for pas

this confused me a bit first off, as my owners handbook lists dexronII for the original AR25 box fitted, just wondered if this was why some of the AR25`s seemed to be problematic, just as well i fitted the AR35 with dexronIII :y

from my vaux contact
dex 11 should only ever be used in power steering never 111 or you will be replacing the pump within 6months of even topping it up with dex111 NEVER MIND FILLING IT!!!
dex 11 or 111 can be used in the autobox with no worries but dex 111 has longer lasting qualities which is why they recomend it now, :y
