had great interest in cockyt1,s thread,as certain things pertain to me. my question is - can i just drain the fuel filter via drain plug ,remove top banjo bolt and fill with d m . the fuel filter has only been on two weeks. my tractor has no probs in hot or cold starting, but 64 is showing. peizo lead may be at fault as suggested on cockyt1 thread,as apart from eml light and a moments lack of power (only occasionly) the tractor runs ok. Ps, its been like this for a long time. :-/ :)

As far as I am aware, the drain at the bottom of the filter is only to let water out which may have accumulated (correct?).
The best bet is to whip the filter off and empty it out, you can then just fill it with diesel magic (in the centre hole) and refit. When you start it up, hold the revs at about 1500 for a minute or two and then take it out for a blast for 10 mins.
I have done this every 6k since I had the car (about 6 times), and it runs better now than it ever has done - don't expect ti to be perfect after the first go, it might take a couple of flushed over time.

Do you reckon that Diesel Magic is better than Forte?
Forte's not always easy to source, and is around 13 to 15 quid a bottle, though I've had good results.
Any idea where I can source it, and how much? Thanks mate!

to be honest they are both about the strongest on the market thanks to H .and Safety piilocks saying the brit public are idiots and cant handle strong chemicals, diesel magic is sold in halfords stores mate, forte is usually available on ebay if you look but both do an equally good job!!

Should I treat my tractor to some DM then?
Or should I leave it since it now starts on the button and runs ok? Ie - If it aint bust, dont fix it! ;D

possible but diesel magic should have improved it if it was? would have thought that stuck egr or poor quality fuel was more likely ifits only when cold?? :y

Certainly is & we get soup later!! ;D

Am assuming its not a glowplug gone down
ok try this then, remove the back cover today, then in the morning when its cold start it and as its missfiring put a finger on each injector pipe in turn, you will feel them pulsing as the engine runs the weak one will not have as strong a pulse through the metal pipe, its amazing just how much of a difference there will be, if one is definetly weaker then obviously change that one!! assuming again there isnt a leak at the other end where the pipes screw into the injection pump!! there is a seal there that can weep! :y

Cheers Omegatoy,
Markseth's latest tractor is coming in next week for the full monty plus MoT.
So if Diesel Magic's good enough for you, we'll use his tractor as the guineau pig!
If I'm happy with the result, then mine'll be getting a drink at every 2.5K oil-change too.
There's been some debate in the recent past regarding diesel fuel quality - mine runs miles better on 'proper' juice, and definately less emissions. I avoid the 'supermarket-type' cut-price stuff, and I'm certainly not the only tractor-owner to confirm this.

easiest way to tell about supermarket fuel is run the car for 2 tankfuls and check how many miles it does, then run it 2 tankfuls on good stuff and see the difference this assumes same route travelling to work etc etc but the difference is there!! in the waynthe car performs as well as economy!!! hope the service goes well bud!!!! :y
