Title: Any further damage ?
Post by: amba on 08 May 2009, 07:53:55
Due to have drivers side rear wheel bearing replaced next tuesday as noise is now horrendous and giving me a real head ache.
Will I cause any further damage driving car for next few days(approx 100 miles per day) as if so will hire another till repaired.
I have noticed that I am getting a bit of vibration,as interior mirror image is blurred and I think car is now not running well..probably me being paranoid.
Any advise appreciated as always

If it seizes or collapses mate you will have problems!  My advice is don't drive it those sort of distances :y

I'd play safe and hire one.  A slow ride to the shops a mile away, yes I'd chance it, but a hundred miles a day at A-road speeds - no.  If the noise is bad enough to give you a headache and the vibration is shaking your interior mirror then there's something seriously wrong which could fail at any time.  And your comment that the car seems to be not running well suggests that the bearing might already be starting to seize but is being forced to turn by the engine.  If it suddenly goes for a massive seizure which the engine can't overcome it could stop the car, or at least suddenly lock that wheel which could be dangerous, or it could tear the bearing apart and cause very expensive damage to other components.
