Title: Replacement key
Post by: Cuss on 06 May 2009, 00:00:22
I have just purchased a 53reg Omega and it only came with one key.

Anyone know how much Vauxhall charge for a replacement, or if there is an alternative supplier I could get one from?

If it is gonna be to much then will have to look into getting a second hand one and getting it reprogrammed.  :-/

Fob things were second hand from a forum member but in as new condition...blank key with immobiliser was from a well known auction site...key cutting was done at one of those little booth things at the market, she even compensated for the fact the original key would have worn down a bit as it was getting on for the £2!!

I got mine on said market place aswell ... was complete with fob in excellent condition and new transponder and blank blade for round about £25 ... didnt think it would be £10 to cut it for the 2 minutes it took ... Still better than £100+ from Vx though  :y :y

Discussion on how to get those illegally is also banned.

Discussion on there output, either from a dealers system, or legal copy is fine though.  :y

Asked my local Dealer few weeks ago how much for key.

If I remember correctly;

Key with Transponder chip part about £55
3-button remote / alarm part about £35
Key cutting part of price with transponder chip

They require 'pass card' number, and need to see genuine V5 (log) before they'll get the key blade part done.

Down side to above is the actual cost, upside is you'll get guarantee for 12mths on the parts ?.

Yes there are places to get the parts cheaper, but up to you personally at the end of the day ?.

Hope that helps ?.

We have to protect the forum from any legal action - we simply couldn't afford to fight any litigation.

So we have a rule not to discuss acquiring, distrubuting, and bypassing protection etc on copyrighted material.

When somebody posts up that you get your XYZ device, which the importer charges £600 for, for £40, thats very obviously a rip off copy.  The Admin team have remove such posts.

Obviously, those who have parted with their £600 and wish to discuss its use, thats fine.  For those wishing to discuss how to make their rip off copy work better, there are plenty of other forums, as you very well know ;), who are prepared to sail closer to the wind than we can afford to.

Does that clarify?

And your post that go nuked was due to a quote that had incriminating text in it.

3 button key off ebay £9 inc p&p.
Programming, plus Blank key cutting £25 complete with new battery.
I was well pleased, Stealers said they could "Probably do it" AND even if they couldn't, they would still charge!!!  I wouldn't have been able to afford it anyway.   :o
p.s. Programming was done at local key cutting centre, he has a Tech 2, Pukka one with licence.

What's the "correct" name for the facelift 3-button fob ??

Both mine are getting very tatty, and Martin has repaired them more than once, I doubt he can keep doing so indefinetly.

My thoughts are to watch fleabay to try and aquire a couple of good condition ones, fit the existing key-part horseshoe thingy, and get the things re-programmed at Newent.

Any one see a hole in the plan ??

:)

If the "Fobs" are getting tatty, just buy better ones off ebay, and transfer the insides over. You won't need them reprogramming. My 3 button job is called "A Key".  ::)

depends what you want the second key for, if it just for the locked the key in the car senario, then a blank key that does nothing more than unlock the car can be the way forward  :)

And all the easier & cheaper if you have your own Tech II to programme it when you've bought it. Lesser mortals have another £25 on top for programming it.  :y  :y  :y

The fobs on egay for 3 button facelifts go for around £20-£25 normally, hence why may as well get fob for £35 brand new.  Well, thats my opinion :)

Exactly, I don't like having one key.

Trouble is, when I had the tractor, I kept reprogramming all the keys between the cars, invariably ended up with remotes that would simultaneously unlock both, and transponders that would start both ;D.

Obviously all set back to normal before selling tractor :y

I could do with that set up. the number of times I've mistakenly picked up the wrong key, pointed towards one car and another unlocks!  :-?  ;D  ;D  ;D

It is the covers doing it they have perished and stick - holding the buttons in - on your latest I found a stiiffer switch to use to push back harder.

Hot water treatment seems to help for a while.

Just really need a good stock of brand new insideless covers.
