Title: sports button bouncing off 4000 rpm!?
Post by: kingplym on 08 May 2009, 19:56:43
as i posted before, i changed my hbv earlier and took my plenumn off to get better access. after putting back together and turning over it shot straight to 2000 rpm at idle, i positioned the throttle cable back in its original position and all seemed fine, back down to 450-500 rpm.

just been for a drive and being paranoid thought miggy wasnt pulling the same, sounded different, etc. but all was ok so put it down to me being para.

on way home thought id try stretching miggy legs, kicked down with sports button on, pulled all the way to 4000 rpm where it bounces off to 3500 rpm as if it was bouncing off a limiter? took it off sports with just kick down and it went all the way and above 4000 rpm, just, i ran out of road, but it seemed fine :o :-[ :-/

any ideas any help please :'(

I recall, reading previous threads, that the crank sensor when it's failing limits you to 3500 rpm - do a paperclip test to see if you get a code 19 :y

cheers mf i just done a paperclip and low and behold a code 19 came up!

why does this happen just as i change the hbv? is there any chance i have knocked, loosened unpluged a lead somewhere along the line?

how much does a new crank sensor cost? can i do with a second hand one? or pattern?

i was driving me miggy yesterday using the sports, etc! im pullling  me hair out :'( :'( :'(

i just looked at the codes and 19 is an incorrect rpm signal. is there any chance of a loose wire

please let it be loose wire

any help please :'( :'( :y

Code 19 is the cs sensor, I had the same prob with my car, Used to stutter at 3500rpm. I got mien for £43. But I was also quoted £139. Check what plug youve got befor you get one. :y

You could have lossened a wire as the sensor is  plugged in at the back of the engine very near to the HBV - but it's unlikely to be the cause as the engine wouldn't fire at all if the sensor is disconnected in any way.
Crank sensors are between £30-£60 I think depending wether you buy genuine or pattern - the consensus on here is to go for genuine - but I put pattern one in mine and haven't had any problems so far - you pays you're money and takes you're choice.
There is a maintenance guide on here on how to fit a crank sensor - not a difficult job - if you can fit an HBV you can certainly fit a crank sensor - will take you half an hour - if that.

Kingplym, whats happening mate ;)

I have just finished changing my oil cooler at last!!!

When I undid the oil pipe bolts above the oil filter, I took the Crankshaft Sensor out.  It took a bit of persuasion to get out, but came out eventually.  I think if you have changed the oil cooler, you can easily change the crank sensor, as I think it is just an electrical plug at the other end.

On my last omega, I had a problem when accellerating hard.  When I reached maximum RPM, it would'nt change down.  I did'nt have a clue what it was - thought it was the auto gearbox at fault...

It turned out to be the EGR valve.  I know your symptoms are slightly different, but I believe you can just dissconect the EGR valve electrical connector to check.  I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong. This is what the VX dealer said they did.

Just trying to help with my experiences in any possible way mate. :y :y

i do remember seing the crank sensor down by the oil filter cos i gave it a little tickle when changing me oil filter and cooler. it does look easy enough just a pain in the preverbial ;D :D ;) i thought bad things were supposed to happen in 3's, this is the 5th for me now in two months >:( heater matrix, top hose, oil cooler, hbv and now crank sensor :o :o :o oh yeah and the baffling coming out of the back box thou the mot isnt til sept so i leave that for now. i think its cos im treating her so well she wants me to get rid of all her little niggles so we can drive in perfect harmany, ha,or something like that you get the idea ::)

still good to hear you got your job done :y :y :y
