Ok guys here is my problem......
My EML is on....Quick rundown...
In the last week the car has had,new
Downpipe
EGR valve
Full service
Got new downpipe fitted, all good til next day EML comes on,phones AA,plugs it in and (cant remember code) basically the 'voltage' reading between the 2 exhaust sensors are not 'within tolerance'
Back to garage, gets another new downpipe fitted.......and whilst its there it gets full service.....all good......til.....
2 hours later, drives it and it starts to mis-fire slightly, then heavily.... gets it home and it goes back to the garage(no EML at this point),it gets plugged in again which shows 'mis-fire 1&2 and EGR valve fault....
So it gets a new EGR valve, all good again...
Driving great, much better response from pedal and generally feeling brill........
Last night....feels a tiny bit sluggish again and 10 mins later EML >:(
Its not in 'limp' but the bloody light is on,phoned my mate and he reckons it could be one of the Lambda sensors, but im not sure...
I know what it is though..........getting annoying!!!
Anybody had the same or came across this?
Any help would be great,my mate who owns the garage is good, but no GM specialist so i need to try figure it.
Im hoping to get through to see hotel21 next week for software updates,so want to try solve it before i go........
Thanks in advance...

If you're going to see H21, get him to look at the live data while you drive :y
-
My mate with the garage has a Snap-on handheld which is good enough but obviously a Tech 2 will be better....so i will ask h21,
Was hoping someone had the same problem....i just want it sorted ;D
Begining to pee me off now :y
Cheers
-
Anyone else had this problem??
-
Bump :y

All wires connected properly? Someone here had recently similar trouble, the reason was that the sensors had been cross-wired. Re-re-check the lambda-sensor connectors that they are on correct sensor and correctly fitted all the way.
-
Wires checked mate all looks fine.......
Im guessing it will come up with 'Cat Efficency' again.....
Im wondering if the 2 sensors have been mixed up? although i would have thought the EML would have come on straight away......It ran for 2 days feeling great, very responsive and quick, then the light came on and it felt slightly sluggish....
Who knows? :)
-
Ok peopl found my AA report...
Codes that were stored were...
P0420 and
P1781
Anyone confirm what they are?
Cheers
-
P0420 is Cat efficiency, now my new downpipe has no pre-cat box, just the pipe,as it seems that this is all thats available now,
Is this the reason my EML is coming on?
Any help would be great guys......

All the people on here and no one can help me.... :(
Or have a just uncovered a brand new fault?
-
if this is the same buisness as the 3.2 then the best thing to do is move the sensors to behind the main cat :y
-
Ok,how do i do it then? ;D
-
from reading on here i think you move the precat sensors behind the main cats ie drill em in i think albatross done it to his 3.2
-
Ah,ok.....and then weld up the pre-cat hole?
-
You can't, if you've only 1 cat.
You'll have 1 lambda before and after the cat.
I've the same 2.2 as you, had the downpipe replaced twice now due to p0420 errors, last time by vauxhall dealer and there replacement only had 1 cat too, so again, 1 lambda before the cat and 1 after.
The orginal had 2 cats, the pre cat heats up rapidly.
Still got the p0420 issue, had new geuine lambda's fitted, tried v-power and bp ultimate, neither resolved the problem.
Car passed MOT no problem like this a few months ago. Fed up now so I just ignore it and reset the light when it comes on, the car behaves the same with the error as it a monitor issue only.
Turning out to be a common issue now, basically it's cheap cats thats now supplied by vauxhall, only work properly when up to temp and as theres only 1 thats further away from the engine it takes longer to heat up, so longer to work properly and thus the p0420 error.
-
If all new downpipes are the same then you would think a software update would be available for the TechII to resolve it
-
What is inside the pre-cat box?
Baffels or just an empty box?
-
It is an actual cat, its reason for being fitted to deal with emmissions when the cars cold I believe, it heats up quicker as its closer to the engine. Not a problem when it comes to the MOT as car is only checked when up to operating temp.
I've had all the updates done by h21 too.
-
So i will be taking the bulb out the EML then? ;D
Its a bit much though really
-
You would think VX could come up with a update via Tech 2 to compensate for this.....anyway....
New sensor fitted, car feels better again and no EML...(so far!) but im just waiting for it to pop up just shortly..... >:(
Taking a wee trip next week to visit H21 to see his Tech 2 in action!! :y
-
Well the EML came back on tonight.......
I know there has not been much feedback on this thread but does anyone have any solution to this problem to get the light off?
So far the only solution i can see is to either find a double cat pipe thats been lying in stock for a while or see a stainless steel exhaust maker to try and make a copy of the original.... :-/
Can someone suggest anything else?
-
Ive been plauged by this code for months >:( >:( >:(... i only have the one cat with a sensor before and after as recommended in the fix but didnt help .... seems the cat isnt getting hot enough being further away from the engine than the pre cat missing on cheap pattern parts to function as the car thinks it should ... i toyed with trying to find a reasonable price original spec but gave up.... the lamp on really pis**s me off though :y

Proz...
I phoned my dealer.....£780 to recondition your old part....
i.e remove from car, take to dealer......
Wait 5-7 days (with your car off the road) while they send it away to be recon.,
Explained the situation to the guy,he look in his system to see what he had listed for a brand new part.........
Guess what....?
1 Cat! 1st sensor into pipe not pre-cat box!
So if a new part from the dealer is the same as a pattern part then what is VX's solution???
I have no idea mate...was his reply
