Post by: stod on 12 May 2009, 11:33:52
 hi all.
my caliper is leaking drastically.

will any of you guys happen to have a spare rear caliper to fit the 2.6 v6 model. im sure the 3.2 ones are the same too.

if any of you do happen to have one would you sell it to me please as im having real trouble finding one at any of the breakers yards in this area. thanks

Do/should you have vented discs at the back? Only asking as MikeDundee had a leak & it was due to NON vented discs having been fitted instead of the proper vented discs  :o. Eventually one piston tried to make a bid for freedom!  :-?  :-?  :-?

Are there seal kits available?  :-/  :-/  :-/

Seals should be fine.....whats the betting its got non-vented discs on a vented setup and one of the outer pistons is protruding a little to far!

hi thanks for the replies.
i know they are meant to be vented but i havnt checked them to see i,ll go and do that now.
if i find thats the problem can i reseal the caliper as it is leaking fron the piston

Yes, if you open the brake bleed point and gently push the piston in with a suitable tool whilst keeping it square then you will be fine.

If it is, as Mark has said, one of the pistons (outer IIRC) has popped/popping out of its bore because the solid disc is only about half the thickness a vented disc. That piston then is half way out even with a new pad in, as the pad has worn ...... the pistion has come out.. You need the correct discs in there after you've carefully pushed the piston back in.

I don't think afetrmarket vented discs for the rear are very common, which is why you've possibly got what you've got. OE discs aren't badly priced if you have access to a Trade Club card.
Careful pushing the pistons back in, do it nice & slowly :y .... you can bugger up your master cylinder seals.

When you push the piston back in, open the bleed nipple first....
