Title: Chip range?
Post by: doz on 12 May 2009, 18:30:30
How far do you think the chip in the key can be away from the ignition and still work? I know for a fact if you have it about 6" away it still works just wondered how far you can get with it. Might explain why I have a couple of silly fault codes.  :-[

I think you may be confusing with the range of the fob. OP meant how far can the transponder chip be from the transponder ring around the ignition barrel.  ;)  ;)  :y :y

At 6" you're probably right on the limit.
Some Fords are as little as 2".
Any further away from the coil it will misread the immo chip and you'll end up with a non-start and subsequent theft mode (spanner light on permanently)
Quickest fix I've found is to central lock the car, leave for a minute, open and start car.
