Hello again,
I bought my miggy knowing that it had alarm issues. Didnt realise it was a pretty easy fix (power sounder normal cause right?)
Mine only goes off when I lock the car with the remote locking so I usually lock the car by reaching in from the offside rear passenger door and pushing down the pin on the drivers door (make sense? :-?) When the alarm goes off, the hazards go off too.
Does this still sound like the power sounder is at fault here?

Apparently, the bonnet swich contact is a common thing to play up on these. I would check that first...
It can be found in the engine bay, on the passengerside, just in front of the powersteering fluid reservuor.
It may be the power sounder though. :y

Rule out the bonnet switch first,open the bonnet and hold the pin switch down,set the alarm and keep holding it,if the alarm goes off while you are still holding it down then thats your fault,if it stays silent let it go and see if it goes off,if it does then its working,just check the pin swith is connecting with the bonnet properly,just watch your fingers!
I had this as well,locking it from the door buttons,i opened the backdoor and pushed the drivers button down,thus activating the central locking but not setting the system,car is perfectly secure with this...(except the alarm obviously)
You could try doing what i did,have the engine running and dis-connect the plug on the sounder(this stops the sounder going off)
switch it off and set the alarm.....
Try it for a few days and see if it helps,if so then the batteries are on their way out in the sounder
Remember to tape up the plug to save it getting wet :y

it doesnt go off immediately so i'll probably be standing around for a while. so do i just press it down? i'll have a look to see if i can ID it
if that is the fault, what do i do next?

Just unplug it, the switch is normally closed, open when the bonnet is down, if you unplug it the alarm thinks the bonnet is always down. :y

One other sign that the Ni-Cd batteries on the sounder are on their way out, is an occasional series of 4 beeps from the engine compartment...

yeah, your turn. We've all had a go on this one i think.
Would suggest taping it down, fully down. If it still goes off you know its the sounder.(make sure the windows and sunroof are fully closed as the wind used to set mine off on hot days, press the running man button with red led and lock the doors within 10 seconds to disarm the internal sensors if you have them.) if alarm does not go off while bonnet switch is taped down and then goes off when not taped then you know its the bonnet switch. In which case leave it unplugged or bend the bracket up to meat the bonnet so its further compressed.
My old cdx used to go off on hot days only when the windows and sunroof where closed. It was the bonnet switch.

Might be an idea to update your profile so folks know where you are mate.
There could be a member local to you with a Tech2/"My Naff Code Reader" who can read the alarm ECU and find out what's been triggering the alarms.
Could save a lot of messing about.

disconnected the bonnet switch. now a case of waiting.
what does this part do when its working? :)

i think its now safe to say that the bonnet switch was the culprit :y
now i can lock the car like a normal person 8-)

i had that problem mate bonnet switch was a little bent over once bent to original position all was ok :y

Markjay, I often (but not always) get the four beeps sounding from under the bonnet. I thinkk it happens after I switch the engine off. Again often the alarm sounds just after I start the engine. Do I need to repace my Nicad batteries? If so, where are they in the engine bay? Can I get replacements from Halfords?

not sure if you can get them from halfords (although i doubt it) but a member on here (welung66666?) is buying them in bulk so should be able to get at a good price.
