On my way to work this morning my 2.5TD was hit by a piece of metal thrown from an oncoming van (or from the road, not sure really). We were both travelling quickly so no chance to stop and investigate.
Damage:
-- bumper split
-- fog light destroyed
-- other small trim panels
-- brakes have a slight judder
-- can't see any major body panel damage
This needs to be repaired FAST, as we go to Holland on Thursday.[smiley=angry.gif]
How easy to repair, if I can get the parts quickly?
Thanks

damn thats unlucky!! sounds like it could only be a days job to repair if you can get the parts tho bud!! I had a pillocl in a puegot smash me up the rear in the rain 1 week before i was due to drive to spain!! got it fixed in time tho!!! :y

depending which side it hit, check no damage to oil cooler (passenger side) or intercooler (drivers side)

Your brake judder may be a coincidence, but it is the priority. If you have a pre-facelift the parts are easy to source. (Lots of Vauxhall parts in Luton) ::)

What year and colour code is your car? I have a couple of elite front bumpers here and some foglights...can certainly get them to you in time to fit for next Thursday :y

I've had a better look and cleaned up the mess. Not as bad as it looked at first-- vertical split in bumper cover, fog light / mounting surround destroyed and small grill gone but mounting points still there. Nothing wrong with brakes, just me paranoid and expecting the worst after all the recent troubles with the car. (Infamy, infamy, they've all got it in for me!)
Can't get a bumper cover quickly but the body repair shop man says he can repair it ("not worth spending too much on an old car" -- I like his pragmatism.) I already have the fog light bits having bought them secondhand some while ago (how did I know?).
Thanks for the offer MutantCav, the car is titanium. If the bumper repair looks good I can live with it. I might pursue your offer after we return from holiday, if the repair doesn't please me.
Anyway, it looks like I can get car the in a fit state by Thursday.
This is why I prefer "don't care cars", less need to worry about them. Even so, it's a shame to turn the miggy from a "nice car" into a wreck quite so soon.
Thanks for your help.

Good luck bud - damned bad luck you've had there.
Enjoy the holiday!

The parts dealer can't get the the driver's side grill piece for several days. This doesn't matter in itself as I can easily fit this. However, the bumper split is between the two grill mounting holes, so the repairer might need the grill to get the split aligned correctly.
:exclamationAnyone have a grill to sell me, near Luton and before Monday (MutantCav)? The car's a 1999 pre-facelift 2.5TD CDX. :exclamation
(Was knocked off the cycle today, but not hurt. I've asked my wife not to let me out of the house alone. Thanks for the good wishes Sethsmate -- I need all the luck I can get at the moment. Definitely lost my mojo.)
Cheers

are you after just a bogo prefacelift grill?
-
I think so TMX. It's the driver's side small black plastic grill that sits alongside the foglamp. Air intake for oil cooler or intercooler, not sure which. Definitely driver's side.
