Title: Engine management light turned on?
Post by: mathewst on 19 May 2009, 07:52:56
I had a strange thing happening the other day.
Took my parents out for lunch ond got an engine management light on.
The car went but it didn't respond to throttle normally (it wouldn't go immediately when you press the throttle and seemed a little restless like one cilinder wasn't working properly).
I turned it off and after it it worked like nothing happened, still works normally now.
Changed the belts sparks, valves, headgasket kit etc two weeks ago before this.
Anyone got any ideas what might have happened?
Also last time I took my parents with me the waterpump broke and ruined a few valves :(
Guess they're bringing bad luck every time I decide to take them for lunch >:(

You need to get some codes out of it first. That should say if there's any fault detected.

I know that would be the easiest way but the problem is that I cannot do the paperclip test cause its 2.2 petrol:-(
So I'm hoping someone will have some idea

Might be the cam sensor on it's way out.

Symtoms, doesn't start first turn of the key, car goes into 'limp' mode.

You need the codes read.

If it turns out to be the cam sensor, only replace with a genuine Vx/Opel one.
