Does it need to? As long as it releases when you pull the level...

Mine doesn't spring up either, but never bothered looking into it, as its not really a problem...

Sometimes it doesent even release, and i take it that it doesent pop up due to the sheer weight of it.

When you say you've tried adjusting it, do you mean you've adjusted the bonnet spring, or the release cable ?.

If you have to get someone to push on the bonnet whilst you pull the cable, sounds like the outer cable may need adjusting a little.

As I had a similar problem when I first got my Mig.

Not sure if this well help ?.

Have you tried lubricating the release mechanism/spring with some grease?
It worked on mine!

I know this is going to seam a strange thing to say, but as you've tried everything else.

Have you checked to see if the bonnet itself is aliened properly (squared up with the wings and front panel, and not slightly out of adjustment causing the catch to jam slightly.

Know it sounds weird, but least the idea is free to try ?!.
