Title: Common faults
Post by: steveturbocal on 22 May 2009, 17:51:07
Im on the look out for my first omega idealy im looking for a 2.5 cdx or elite want a 2000 or early 2001 model. Just want to know what the common faults are to look for really. i.e any were there well known for rusting in, (being a vauxhall an all lol) or any particular engine faults they suffer with to look out for etc etc.

Thanks in advance.

Check for rust above the rear wheel arches.
Check the milage, dis packs and crank sensors tent to go at around 100k. Check for oil in the spark plug wells.

Nothing much else apart from normal service history :y

check the idle when the engine is cold..

check the idle when engine is warm..

check for irregular noises..

check the exhaust leaks with some throttle when your door is open..

use climate/heater for cold and warm..

if you smell sweet coolant either the matrix or hbv leaking..

check the dead pixels on the road computer..

check the plug wells for oil..

check the front discs for wear..

check the wishbones for oil leak ..

check the autobox engagement..

and take a drive .. :y

Check when cambelt and tensioners were last done -- if you don't know , will have to be done right away ideally. In anny event not more than 40K / 4 years between changes.

They do rust not as bad as a Carlton or a Senny the rust is all cosmetic and ive got no sill rust or structual rust on my'n just two scabs on each rear arch

Cranksensors play up on them quite common if its a non starter!

Gadgets are fairly reliable if you go for an elite you get the 6 Speaker stereo sounds the part!

Heated seats are a must for testing they do pack up and are a pita to change if youve got leather seats so make sure they all work

Service history is very important especially if 100K +

Leaking wishbones?  or do you mean oily covered wishbones???
