Title: Water entering car
Post by: ronnic on 09 June 2009, 13:06:00
Hi, I've joined the forum in the hope someone out there will be able to help me out. I have an Omega 2.2 CDX Estate. My problem is that whenever we have a heavy downpour of rain the footwells in the passenger side and only on the passenger side often have water all over the floor. It is worse in the rear but there is water in the front seat well as well. I can't seem to find where it's coming in from. The seats are bone dry as is the door panels, roof lining etc. Any advice or help would be very much appreaciated.

if you open the bonnet look under the window ant there is a black plastic lookig piece that runs the width of the car the rain water runs into this and at the end there is a hole where it drains ou of you could try pouring some water in the hole and see if it fills up/drains slowly. you should see it pour freely out underneath the car

The scuttle is the plastic cover beneath the windscreen and under the bonnet. You need to be working on the passenger side.  ;)

Thanks guys, just checked my car and the drain on the passenger side was completely blocked. Going to sort it out now. hopefully i'll have dry carpets from now on. I'm really pleased that my first problem aired on the forum was sorted in minuets. Thanks again guys.

It's a good feeling isn't it?

Sometimes problems can take a lot longer than a few minutes to fix (ask star_whites!) but with the collective help of our members it can be done with knowledge and perseverence, and often physical help from nearby members.

I've had a few problems fixed with the help of other members and it's so fulfilling when it all works out in the end. Don't you just love it when a plan comes together!

Anyway, good luck with the car. It will last a long time given good care.

Yep that was my problem when I first had the miggy.
You need to get that carpet lifted and the thick foam rubber stuff underneath dry. I cut mine out to dry in the garage for a few days, be careful there is a wiring loom under the passeger side footwell carpet, so take care with the knife if you go down this route.
You need to get it dry or it will start to smell a bit. :y

I had a simular problem with mine, only it was the drain hole in the Sunroof causing a wet soggy rear footwell and only a 2 min job to rectify. :y

hi Andy, just in case my problem isnt fixed by clearing out the drian under the scuttle, which I'll be suprised if it isnt by the amount of muck cleared out, could you tell me how to check and clear the sunroof drian, as with my car the rear footwell is far worse than the front footwell.

cheers Ronnic

ok checked  sunroof drain and that appears completely clear, water ran straight through to the floor. So I think, or hope the prolem was the scuttle drain. Once again guys many thanks.

Best thing for cleaning the sunroof drains is that old plastic covered wire stuff the SWTSMBO hangs net curtains on... it is flexible but firm enough to clear the pipes. Be carefull of using stiff wire as if you push the plastic pipe off you'll have a devil of a job to refit it !!
