Title: LPG and rpm sensor help please
Post by: odthing on 11 June 2009, 07:47:22
Hi,

I am now fairly well advanced on the lpg conversion to my car. However the wiring diagram has a connection to the 'coil', which I assume is to pick up rpm data. As my car has two ominously complex looking coil packs each mounted on the plugs with mass spaghetti wiring to each I am unsure of where to connect, or whether to try to connect into the rev counter sensor instead.

Can anyone answer on how they have done this please?

Regards, Will  :(

Rev counter line (light green) from ECU (X86 pin 35) is the best bet. The advice to connect to the coil is only relevant for cars with a conventional ignition system.

EDIT: PM sent, by the way.

well I...we....well, Kevin Wood actually, wired it in via the relevant pin on the ecu, or more specifically due the density of the pins, the wires leading into the plug. Tis shows the wiring diagrams for the omega and has an exploded view of the pin outs of which there are many. Sounds complex but its the neatest way to do it as you can run all the wires to the triangular fuse box by the battery and wire the whole lot in there.

Personally i found picking the correct wire and cutting into it a daunting prospect and bottled it prefering Kevins experience having done it before. I hate wiring and electrics anyway.
With the ecu plug removed iirc youll see each pin is numbered. Unfortunately i dont know which pins you need and when i looked at the lambda wires they are all the same colour(4 on my car)

Anyway, i am sure Kevin will pop in here soon with advise and smooth the way. :-)

OK: All connections (bar the injector piggy-back wiring) can be made to the vehicle loom as it passes into the ECU in the relay box by the battery. This is much better, IMHO, than chasing wires into looms all over the car. Connections as follows:

EDIT: The following is true for Y26SE and Y32SE engines:

RPM (Brown wire on STAG loom): x86 pin 35 (light green)
Lambda sensor 1 (Pink IIRC): X85 pin 28 (Blue)
Lambda sensor 2 (Purple IIRC): X85 pin 44 (Blue)
Ignition switched 12v feed (red): x86 pin 47 (Black)

Of the two connectors on the ECU, X86 is the one, the loom from which leads back through the bulkhead and into the car. The loom extending from X85 runs across to the cable tray on the engine.

You can carefully unclip the covers on the ECU connectors. If you look into the face of the connector you will see the pins are numbered. You can then find the pin you want, and follow its' wire out of the connector, peel a little of the tape from the loom and tap into the wire by scraping away the insulation, soldering the connection and wrapping with insulating tape.

Permanent 12v (Thick red with inline fuse and ring on the end) can go to the battery + terminal, negative (black with ring on the end) to battery - terminal.

That's really helpful, Thanks, Will
