BLOOD BOILING
We should start dishing out this kind of punishment to THEM when they step out of line.
but NO, they can stand on orange boxes in London in the street slagging us off and get away with it.

Just a thought. We complain like mad when foreigners come to this country and break our laws and get away with it.
This person has gone to work in a foreign country and has broken one of their laws. Whether we think the law is just or not, it is their law. Why should we be surprised that she has been arrested and will have the force of the law of the land brought down upon her?
Now, I don't agree with their laws or how they are applied, but as the saying goes, 'When in Rome....'.

Yes agree, but they need to stand by OUR laws also, and there are several examples when they have not, and got away with it, thats our goverments fault,

"This could be more to do with who is saying it than what is being said. It might not have been an issue if this was a Sudanese person."
"The fact that this was a European teacher is highly likely to be one of the key causes."

Poorly equipped, baby-faced conscripts. And we only just got away with that.

We were sent into Theatres that were very dangerous, and had to make comprimises, still we are one of the best trained Armys in the world.
Its just no good if the Government do things Half hearted, just to please their Friends over the Lake :( :(

Totally take exception at that, i was there and belive me they were not poorly equipped, and we won the conflict by a massive margine, and baby faced or not, they could fight a good fight, and not only that, i was baby faced also, absolutly terrified, as we all were but we did the job as trained to do so.

guys lets calm down. The British forces always have been and always will be first class in every respect. I think the point is they get no support from the goverment - which is shocking.
Now lets get back to how we rescue teacher and teddy :)

Exactly Steve, but only part of the problem. We are trained in the age old British army way which is fantastic with reguards to sticking together as a fighting unit etc. But you cannot operate as a fighting force in arenas where you dont know your enemy. We failed in NI and we're failing in Iraq. Afghanistan is a bit different because, out there in the desert, it's just you and them. Also, successive governments have always tried to fight on the cheap.
Impossible odds to overcome.

Nothing to calm down about, i just took exception to the remark as an ex Falklands veteran, i was there and know what i am saying to be spot on, its not right making out as though we were fighting school kids using bow and arrows

I dont want to take anything away friom you guys Pete. I am eternally grateful that people like you go out and put your life on the line for your country. But, if you remember the post I answered, It was about swaggering halfway across the world to sort out some tinpot country. It just cannot be done any more, and, whilst I know of your sacrifice in the Falklands, if the Argies had got hold of the exocets they wanted, it would have been all over. We won the war, NOT the battles, by political subterfuge.

I wish i could dissagree with you, but unfortunatly you are right in what you are saying,
I was in NI a few times starting out in 1982, we were only there as the government were not able to pull their fingers out, i lost a few very good friends there, all this could have been avoided.
It wasnt Blairs Genius that sorted that out.
Irak was even worse, we didnt only have to fight the enemy, but the Americans too, they thought it was a rather shooting range.
We went out there with completely the wrong equiptment, and everything fell apart.
Intel was absolutely shit, and that too cost lives.

Yes i noticed the post, perhaps a bit much for him, :-/
Never the less your not wrong on your point of view, we were drawn very thin in the Falklands, because we were so far away from home, and if the Argies had recieved the weapons they wanted then we would have had many more casualties.
Come on Pete, it´s only a discussion :y :y

:)I drive about all day & heard both these stories on the radio. I grudgingly accept that countries laws & cultures differ wildly but there is no excuse for this inhumane barbaric behaviour. F*** that's back to the age of stoning. I freely admit i've no first hand experience of such outdated & deluded fanatics as some of our ex serving members have but is'nt there a UN treaty/governing body or something that can or will stand up to this? There's definately a huge cultural divide because over here lowlives can interfere with children, attack overstretched & underpaid emergency service staff with bricks, lumps of wood when they're doing a hard enough job without that s**t & IF they're caught they get some pointless supervision order. Oh well that's ok then, nice to know they've been suitably punished.
This is the first rant i'm not going to apologize for. >:(

But, isn't that just the point. Our country's legal system doesn't have the back bone to punish people who break the law. We all want to see lowlife scum properly punished.
I just don't think we should be too quick to criticise a country that uphold it's laws in a robust and rigorous manner, no matter how distasteful that is to us.
I also don't agree with what may happen to this woman but I don't live in Sudan and, from what I've seen wouldn't want to.
-
There is a point missing here! No law HAS been broken.
According to a Muslim leader on the TV this morning, the law they are holding her under is to do with creating an image of Mohammed, Naming a Teddy Bear hardly counts! The thing was named in September and has been taken home by pupils weekly since then, no problem. Only when a teacher got wind of it did it blow up.
-
I'm with you on that Markie - absolute bloody morons. I could think of something else that the letters PC stand for!
