Sorry to keep 'banging' on about this but this tapping noise just isn't getting any better. It's not too bad in Park but as soon as I select drive it's really quite loud. The tiicking from exhaust manifolds usually clears when the engine / exhaust warms doesn't it? so I can only think that it is the lifters. How long should this take to settle, if it's going to, and If I leave it will it do any harm? Also I assume this is a big strip down job to replace them?
Thanks :-/ :y

Have you tried a bottle of lifter treatment?
Quietend Mike Dundees in seconds after his rebuild.

Yup added a bottle with my oil change a couple of days ago... :-/

drop oil again drop sump off and clean pick up pipe then fresh oil :y

Thanks Mark, Do you know the part number for a sump gasket if there is such a thing?? :y

If it's getting worse under load I would suggest it's the exhaust manifold gasket. Lifter noise would be at a constant level regardless of load.

Oh Ok - the noise speeds up under acceleration. It's a really distinctive tap tap noise! exhaust manifold - is that a big job?
