Title: Fitting 3.0 into my dead 2.6 - parts to change?
Post by: GastronomicKleptomaniac on 16 June 2009, 13:02:47
Right, public post simply to avoid bugging one particular member. :D

I'm looking to fit a 3.0 into my 2.6, I know I need to swap some of the DBW gubbins onto the 3.0 engine. I'm looking at the sensors, camcovers, sensor wiring - do I use the 2.6 ECU, or will the 3.0 plug in? Will it need Tech2ing?

I also need to swap the plenum and throttle body assembly, am I right?

I'm going to have the two cars parked up next to each other, and I assume its easier to swap the parts over when both engines are on the deck?

Cheers in advance :y

every thing on your 2.6 will need swapping over plenum cam covers cam sensor poss crank sensor knocks are same and use the 2.6 ecu  :y

Out of interest, whats the difference between the cam covers?

bigger holes were coilpacks go  :y also you will need a 3.0 from 98 on so you can bolt the coilpacks down  :y

If you dont already have a 3.0 engine to put in it then I have one here :y

Thats not going to be easy task.

Need to use the Motronic 2.8.x ecu, fit the engine (complete) with all its sensors, 3.0l intake (for the air temp sensor), bits of the SIA system. Throttle cables, not sure if you need to change the pedals. Cruise actuator.

May need tech2 on gearbox/abs

its easy jaime just use all the 2.6 parts at the end of the day its just block and heads your changing  :y
if its an auto then yes gearbox ecu will need sorting sumat to do with the amount of power the ecu asks the engine for iirc on the 2.6 its 199lbft :y

TB, don't do that to me! :)

 It's an '00 ex-plod 3.0 manual the engine's coming from, into my 2.6 manual, so no worries gearbox-wise. :y

just wondering, why not the 3.2 lump? Straight swap i would presume? Apart from finding one of course?

Precisely that. And the fact that people charge way over the odds for ex-plod 3.2s.

Now, to decide - swap the DBW gubbins onto the 3.0, or swap the whole 3.0 lump into the engine bay, including pedals and the like? *strokes chin*

DBW V6s look so much neater, no EGR SAI etc etc. I reckon you'd need a mechanical cruise too if you fitted all the 3.0  :y :y

Never had cruise on this, so I won't worry about that. Looks don't bother me, it's whether I can fit it as a complete unit and so keep the wiring, etc.

I think the best course of action will be to park them side by side, see what's the same and what's different. Main concern for me is the pedals, since I'm not too good at yoga...

You need to swap the gubbins onto the 3.0....dont consdier just dumping the 3.0 with its bits and ecu in because it will require main loom re-wiring, throttle cables adding, different gearbox ecu, different ABS ecu, differnt pedal box....

So get the 3.0 bare. (block cylinder heads etc) and swap the ancillaries and wiring over.....keep the 2.6 exhaust manifodls as they are better than the 3.0 ones

Not to difficult to do.
