Hi, I have a cooling system leak coming from a plastic cylindrical unit at the back of the engine on o/s of my V6 it is leaking from the body of this unit as though it has a hole in it. It is very difficult to see how many hoses are attatched to it. Please can you tell me what this unit is and why should it be leaking from its body.
Thanks Mike.

Sounds like the HBV (Heater Bypass Valve) mate, around £30-£35 from Vauxhall :y

There should be three pipes coming off it if I remember correctly. You could do with getting it fixed as soon as you can as leaving it will only cause more problems, rusting and damaging your dispack (the old distributor) if you don't :y

Ok thank you very much for your help its much appreciated, I will get it done asap Thanks again :y

You can do it without removing the scuttle panel but is a bit of a squeeze.. :y

but the point being ... is that the T's get brittle & are easily broken due to living under a hot bonnet. :y :y

Put your dummy back in Andy lad ;D
I would advise Mike T to remove the scuttle panel so there is easy access, this way you should not break any T pieces :y

Calm down ladies ! ;D
Daz, think I saw your motor yesterday, parked on the grass on W****** Rd, looked very nice if it was yours !

On the same subject. I have a leak coming from one of the pipes leading to the same plastic thing. Would it be safe just to put a bit of waterproof tape or would it be easier just to change it?

Seems like you need a new/another pipe or I suppose your HBV could have a crack in it. what kind of hose clips are fitted? If Jubilee, it's not unknown for them to be over tightened & break the plastic stub pipe it's connected to. Best to take it out & have a proper look at it & its hoses for cracks & splits. :y

Cheers. Will have a look when I finish work tonight. :y
