Title: Vacume pump?

Hi there guy's , when I start the omega from cold there is a fairly loud noise that sounds like a vacum cleaner :-?

It lasts for a few minutes and then shuts off and the car sounds as normal . The colder the weather the longer the sound lasts . Any answers to my mystery under-bonnet cleaning lady?

The car runs as normal and is a 2.5 V6 Elite '98 Thanks guys. :y

sounds like there is air being sucked in through somewhere ie air flow pipe or possibly a swplit in a hose somewhere? :y

Think that's normal, unless you disconnect connector under n/s front wheel arch from SAI . Think purpose causing that noise is heating up cat converters to operating temperature at start up so it can save the planet.  Disconnecting shouldn't affect general performance. Hope I'm right, others will let you know if I having got it right.

SAI pump, noise coming from in front of NSF wheel?

Unplug it if it is annoying you. It doesn't really do much, unless you are a real greenie, in which case you wouldn't have an Omega

OK so I'm going to be a real thickie now and ask what does SAI stand for?  :-?

Also if I do want to disconnect it what am I looking for?

Secondary Air Injection. The system, for the first 30s or so after starting, pumps air into the exhaust manifolds which helps heat the cats up, so they start working quicker.

Purely for emmissions on startup.


Find pump, unplug it :D

Which engine has this SAI feller, all of them? Never had that problem myself you see...
