Title: Diff fluid replace
Post by: VXL V6 on 22 June 2009, 12:54:22
Just been reading the Diff fluid replacement guide, seems relatively simple but was wondering how feasable it is to leave the end plate in place and just syphon the old fluid out then refill?

What are the downsides?

Good point, well presented!

I guess the other issue is that any swarf (for want of a better description) will not be removed.

I've always used a vacuum pump with some plastic tube through the fill hole. Didn't buy the pump for this purpose but it works well enough.

Any further description of the pump and where you can obtain one?

Thanks

You can probably get one from Frost's or Machine Mart. Sometimes called a vacuum gun. Looks kinda like a gun, has a trigger handle, a gauge on top and plastic pipe off the nozzle. This pipe fits into the lid of a small plastic canister and another pipe comes out of the lid next to it. You pull the trigger and fluid gets sucked into the canister. They're also used to diagnose engine running problems apparently because you can tell from the gauge whether something is holding vacuum.
