Right well, having bought the Elite with a short MOT I booked it in today to see what would need doing so I could decide whether to keep it or not. Tbh I expected it to fail big time, was happily surprised that it failed on the handbrake only! Going to adjust that at weekend. Also advised on rear tyres but thats just advisory. Very pleased, so now I'm keeping it I have a few questions....
Wishbones: Nothing mentioned on MOT but there is a clunking sometimes when going over bumps. Is this bushes or the wishbones themselves? I see some wishbones for sale, might it be worth changing them anyway? Anyone got a guide on this?
Gearbox: Seems a little baggy to me, can it be adjusted at all and if so how? Or is it meant to be like it is.
So now I'm going to make sure everything is perfect and get the car as close to mint as I can. Tidy it up properly.
I'm also thinking that I might get it hooked up to a Tech II just to see if there is anything there the paperclip test doesn't show. I believe the closest is Kevin Wood? What are your prices Kevin?
Also if anyone is willing to take a general look at the car who has more experience with Omegas than I do would be appreciated. I would happily come to you.
Right, off to make my list of things to do! :D

The clunking is probably droplinks, around £20 a pair, about half an hour to fit.
Check the atf level in the gearbox, there is a guide somewhere in here on the best way to do it. :y

Manual or auto?

Sorry, the Elite is Manual.
The CDX I have is Auto but that'll be going now.

I agree, will be drop links, can do only one side if you know which, but for cost and time may as well do both. As for box, what do you mean by baggy? My old manual was sharp through the gears, is it the change that is slow?

I mean the action is quite baggy. Thats the best way I can think of explaining it. Not quite sharp.
Another note, where is the best place for VX parts? Would it be VX with a trade card? I always used GSF for my Citroen parts but they don't do much Omega stuff.

If its the actual change that is sluggish it will be a worn linkage. You can sometimes take out the slack but I think it will be a big job, speaking from other RWD cars. Will wait for a Mig expert to tell me different.

As said clunking will be drop links...cheap and easy, if you want to change the wishbones, or have a spare pair in case, I have a new pair going in the parts for sale section...I also have a manual gearbox here if you want a spare....both pretty cheap as I just want them out of my garage to make room (and I know this is a novel concept) to put the car in lol

I am sure Kevin will sort you out with any Questions or issues you may have. :-)

Any recommendations as to where to get parts from?
Thanks

Have you got a Unipart local to you? Always found their stuff to be very cheap, but rather good.
