Whilst in the lakes the cars temp shot off the dial with no warning. Now , there no heat from the a/c and the rad fan does not cut in. After mr rac got me home , theres gunk in the header , so I know what that is , I flushed most if it out and tried again but still the same symptoms. I checked fuses etc and they are ok. Any ideas out there then , I'll be doing the oil cooler myself so if there owt else eg thermostat etc I can look at?

If oil cooler has failed - LOTS of flushing.....

And its obviously been driven for some time like that :-X - don't people check under the bonnet weekly :o
As its been failing likely for a long time, many of the rubber pipes and seals may have started to soften, so they could well fail sson as well. Sounds like the rad switch has already packed up.

Additionally, if its that bad, I reckon 2-3 coolant flushes a day for about 3 weeks, then flushing daily for another week should clear most of it (I had one that was pretty bad that I bought as a project 3yrs ago, so know the mess it makes)

Lastly, whilst I'm on my high horse, its is likely to be poor servicing that killed the cooler. Probably why the 11yr old one in my MV6 is still fine ;)
