Possibly a broken spring with the broken piece lying at the bottom rattling around :-/

think you got it first time tbh. But usually its the cat back section that goes just before the box join. So possibly cat back system needed. Try Eternal car via google for steel or i am sure someone will suggest stainless surlyers if you want.

My money will be on the spring rattling around inside the rest of the spring .... happened to me .. didnt even know it had broken , was only half of the very top coil  :y

depends what sets it off, if bumps aggravate it then yes could well be spring busted. If its engine revs then exhaust, mine was worse at idle. Does it do it when stationary?

Def engine revs not bumps. However, only noticeable when warm. :-?

Hey !   This happened to me recently...drove me nuts and tried everything...went for a ride in the boot, found the location, roughly and looked in to everything.

As soon as I thought I'd solved it, I hadn't.

FINALLY.  Found that the large heat shield that sits above the back box had come loose. The bolts holding it on the the underside of the car and burnt through and it was bouncing and rattling all over the place. Couldn't get the bolts out...they snapped off while i tried to undo them....BUT ran a couple of washers and screws through the heat shield back into the underside...problem solved.

Quiet as a mouse now.

MIGHT be your problem also.
