Title: Couple of things....
Post by: Waglet on 12 June 2009, 08:56:29
Auto box seems to stay in 1st gear from cold for at least a couple of minutes driving....once warm its OK. (How do you change fluid with no dip stick?) And 2 brakes judder badly but not all the time, this is a pain living in Milton Keynes because you are always braking for roundabouts!. Any thoughts? Ta

Your gearbox stays in first a little longer when it's cold because it's meant too, supposedly to help warm cats up quicker, they all do it, as did Senators & Carltons before the Omega.
Juddering brakes? You could always give them a good clean up around where the pads slide in the calipers & try that. Failing that maybe new pads would help.

Have found that by giving the brakes "more pressure (stomping)" on them tends to illiminate the wobble. Would this indicate warped discs perhaps?

Fit only genuine Vx front discs and pads - pattern tend to fail quickly!  Around £70 for pair front discs and pads on TC from Vx :y

Re front brake judder.

Try freeing up the rear pads before buying new front discs.

Quite often this will cure your problem...

as said your gearbox is normal. Its as designed. If you want to trick the box round it press the snow or sports mode button. But i wouldnt worry about it at all.
Brake judder... If constant every time you press the pedal then its brakes new pads and discs as said. If intermittent, could well be wishbone bushes allowing the wheel to wobble around. Would sound like the latter if the brakes and pads look in good nic. When examining pay special attention to the inboard outer edge of the disc. Any unusual rust bands or marks?
