Title: What needs doing to High Mileage 2.5TD

As per the thread re mpg for 2.5TD.

What needs looking at/or unblocking on 125k mile cars. I have had it serviced (lots). Changed the 20mm pipe that joins the inlet & exhaust manifold checked all induction pipes for quality and replaced some + new hose clips.  I see that despite using show-off blue hoseing, and good clips oil still seems to be forced past the joints on the hose that goes onto the inlet manifold. Is it possible that baked on oil has restricted the individual inlet pipes hence abnornally high mainfold pressure  causing the new pipes to leak still???? Any hints and tips on any maintenance issues  will be most welcome

p.s thanks to Marks DTM Calib for his 'Servicing the rear disc and parking brakes' guide. My hand-brake now works for the 1st time, handy with a caravan on a slope!

These engines are always 'oily', not sure there are any solutions to that.

125k isn't high for one of those.  Trouble is, the rad tends to silt up at around that mileage, and if it has an auto gearbox, that may let go soon (Vauxhall fitted an underrated gearbox  >:().

That aside, lots of regular oil changes (every 3k is ideal), that engine will go on for a long time :)

I had the gearbox stripped and sorted last year. The fuel figures don't even seem close to the other thread 'what mpg' I realise that 0-60mph with this car is eerr slow but once up to speed 70mph i would expect it to just roll along, but it does seem to make hard work of it with resultant rubbish mpg (27mpg on a trip to Suffolk 200 miles)
I might as well get 3 litre petrol and have some fun1

The root-cause is oil mist from the turbo, which then accumulates in the induction system.
Mine gets an engine oil/filter-change every 2500 miles, and the charge-air pipe, (embossed 'turbo diesel'), gets a thorough clean-out at the same time. Prevention being better than a cure - literally!
Filtration must be 100% too, so make sure that the air filter is spot on.

I remember TheBoy remarking on the cleanliness of mine at the Newent meet last year, and that's nearly on 150k miles - nice one J!

that oil sure does collect in the tubo-diesel section I have wiped mine out a few times now. is it possible that it gets to the inlet manifold and dries restricting the air flow through the last section ie the skinny individual pipes. Because mine sure doesn't seem to have the breath to run down motor ways

it gets everywhere but a lot collects in the intercooler so whip that off and gove it a good clean, if you really really want to clean the thnig properly then inlet off and be prepared for some serious cleaning !! owing to the egr allowing sooty gas form the exhaust into the inlet it really does cling alround the inside iof the inlet manifold, and it takes some cleaning to get it all out!!
large long handled artists brush is your friend!! as is  mr muscle oven cleaner(watch the fumes) but it does shift it, thinners petrol gunk etc etc anything that will clean it out , and take special car eof the egr valve on the throttle body as i suspect thats where you oily reasidue is leaking from!! :y

thanks for that info is there much to dismantle to get the inlet off. The throttle body and valve come of with it I guess???  Do i need to replace the gaskets between the inlet and engine and what are the torque settings. sorry that's a lot of questions

If it was an AR35 that went on last year, chip it. It will improve performance, drivability, and mpg!
