Few mobile places do it.

I had mine done down at Wheels in Motion in Chesham, about £60-70 iirc
seem to know what they are doing.

You can combine it with getting your geometry checked  :y

Excellent...did not know wheels in motion do air con. I will combine geometry with AC as geometry was in the pipeline... Many thanks

No worries, i didnt either

went for geometry, and new tyres, and did aircon at the same time!

now that was a fair old bill!

I am tempted to get a new set of tyres.........

Lol, could be a big bill then!

I found WIM very competitive on tyres too.

Ok. My A/C has developed a problem today.
Basically took my vehicle to wheels in motion for geometry and A/C service on saturday. Everything went well  and the A/C was working just fine until  today morning. Basically if you set the temparature at any figure above  17 degree it blows warm to hot air. Very strange..but 17 and below works just fine.
In the past i was able to keep select 20 degrees and the A/C was cool...Even 22  degrees.
What could be the problem?

does sound strange, at 22 i would expect warm air, both ours live at around 18-19.

the sudden change in behavior does sound like a problem

have you done the reset on the climate panel, off and auto for 5 seconds (until you hear all the motors whirr)

guess a vac pipe could have come off in the engine bay.

guess a sensor could have gone faulty.

would need a diag computer to check some of those though

What does outside temp sensor read (on the MID)?

outside temp is fine. In the morning it said about 17 which was about right as the local radio said it was 18 degrees.

other thing you can play with is covering the dome in the centre of the dash by the screen, see if that affects the fan speeds

Ok. On saturday i took the car to a hifi installer to install a stereo for me. All  went well, but they had such a hard time removing the  CDR 5000 and they had to  dismantle the whole climate panel and  put it back.
could they have plugged something in the wrong place..hence causing the problem...

Ahhhha

they must have disconnected something

either electrical or physical, are there small joining levers they could have disconnected  >:(

I drove the car yesterday from work and AC has been working superb. I really don't know what happened yesterday morning as it was blowing warm air.
Today morning it was still in top form.

One thing could be that if it was very warm and Sunny then the sun sensor would have been giving reading to make it run colder quicker to cool the inside of the car down. I find this to happen on mine.

You were absolutely spot on. The same issue has cropped up again. Anything above 17 degree and the A/C blows warm air. Very irritating in this weather. So basically if i want A/C cool air for now i have only keep the temprature at 16 degrees or below.
I spoke to the guys at Wheels in motion and they have asked me to take the car back for them to have a look. Could be some leak somewhere they said.
Fingers crossed. Really not keen to visit my local dealer..They always seem to get the diagonistics wrong and i always pay for incompetence!!

Sounds to me like one of the blending flaps is stuck / disconnected. Over a certain temperature the climate panel will open the heater valve to allow coolant into the matrix and use the blending flap to control temperature. If the flap is stuck on "hot", it will result in a sudden increase in temperature.

Where are these blending flaps ? Could the regassing guy have done this accidentally ?

no, a regasser just connects to valves in the engine

Replacing a stereo is much more likely.

ok thanks. The radio installer had such a hard time removing the stereo that they took the whole climate control panel off. He must have re-connected it wrongly. I need a mechanics who knows miggys. Can anyone recommend a mechanic?

But then again if he re-connected it wrongly...why did it work perfectly yesterday and failed today? It laso failed on monday.

Did you perform the reset procedure as mentioned above?

Yes, i did that and it worked fine yesterday. Then it started playing up today again.

on an older car such as yours, it just monitors sunlight, and boosts fan speed when its sunny, on the facelifts its more clever (and more prone to breaking, where it uses the sun angle as well, so controls fans more independantly.

Regarding the OP's question, I think you'll find that many VX dealers get an outside contractor in to to AC work - just as they do to replace windscreens.

i can give you a step-by-step guide in taking the climate unit out of the dash (though im sure there is a how to on here somewhere, so im probably redundant) the only tricky thing is getting the stereo out -

It might be worth explaining to the stereo fitters the problem, ask them to take it out for you (unless you have the right tools) then you can go home, have a cuppa, take out the offending bit of the dash. Its only screws from here-on in.

Then you can check the plugs/sockets at the back of the cc panel. It does sound logical that that's the problem.

You mean the blending and direction flaps - there is still only 1 fan ;)

I had an aftermarket head unit fitted by a local car audio dealer about a year ago, and recently decided to return everything to the factory stereo.

I had pretty much everything out including the air control panel, glovebox etc.

While its tight for space in the stereo area, its not *that* easy to bash/bend the air control stuff. Its pretty well tucked to the sides other than the odd vent pipe that comes down to the footwells or leads to the centre vents. The control panels have push release connectors like the switches etc. and from memory theres only one or possibly two connector blocks so you'd notice major things if one wasn't connected.

I actually didn't need to disconnect the leads on mine, I could bring it out far enough to help me remove stereo/av leads without needing to remove it completely.

The air conditioning has been bahaving itself for the last 4 days ...still don't know what to say..
Also i notice of later as i drive the car especially in the morning....i can smell petrol.cvThis goes on for a few minutes then stop.
then suddenly since friday the engine managment light has come on. The car perfomance has been affected a little. Could another problem elsewhere with the engine be affecting the A/C?. I need a code reader asap.
