Hi all!
Im about to change my filter in my M plate tractor. My oil filter is one of the separately mounted on the inner wing type on the left hand side looking from the front.
My question is:
Is the large lower bowl released by unscrewing the bowl itself, or by undoing the bolt head on the top of the houseing.
It may seem a silly question, but I rather ask and look silly than not and look sillier.
Thanks all!

Hello there! Are you sure it is the oil filter mounted over there? On mine (P reg) the location you have suggested is where my fuel filter sits!?
The oil filter sits on the right hand side of the engine bay (looking from front of car) and is located just below the inlet manifold. It will have either a 36mm plastic nut, or a smaller sized steel bolt with a cap on.
But, I could be wrong! ;D

Hi! Could be.
I found what looked like an oil filter, and assumed that was it! If it is the fuel filter I described then I'll be clearing that to, so I suppose the same question applies.
Does your car have the BMW Straight 6 lump? And is your oil filter got to from above or below.
Thanks again!

It sounds like that is the jobbie! The fuel filter just screws off from underneath the housing, and then slides down the pick up pipe and off the bottom - these cost about £8/9 on Vx trade.
The oil filter will most likely have the large (36mm) plastic nut on top. Remove this and the filter will be visible in the chamber, whip this out and give it a quick wipe around and shove a new one in (£5ish from Vx). You can get the oil from Vx for £30 for 20 litres (enough for 3 changes)
The best bet is to change the oil every 3-3.5k :y

Where are you at mate?

Cheers Fella! Info much appreciated! :y
Im only using some cheapo oil for first change (wilkinsons, £8 / 5 litres, x2). Just bought the car recently and the oils looks like road tar, even for a diesel, so Im just having a flush for a few hundred mile before putting in some nice stuff.
Anything else a new Miggy owner should be on the lookout for at the same time?
Also: Vx = Vauxhall? or something else?
Cheers!

And when you have changed the oil it will still look like black goo in a matter of a few miles, that's the way it is.

Yep - and the filter's different too!
Halfrauds stock only this earlier filter, and according to their (so called) teenaged experts, the more common later version, (for the plastic-topped 36mm nut type), simply doesn't exist ....... !!
Your whereabouts? If you were reasonably local, you could have done it here in the 'service centre' with the assistance of moi!
Change oil and filter every 4500 miles absolute max; and sump capacity is 6.5 litres with a filter-change. Best to use Vx own-brand 10/40 semi-synthetic at around 37 quid for four 5 litre cans.
Still, happy to help, and good luck. Nearly forgot, Vx = Vauxhall!

M reg will have U25DT engine, mechanically identical to later X25DT engine, though the oil filter housing is different (but in the same place).
As Omegatoy says, 13mm long bolt to undo, lift off cap, then withdrawn the filter element.
OSF inner wing filter is fuel filter.

somebody said that oil have to be change around 3000-3500km.Where the hell is written anything about this interval?service manual maybe?

We're getting confused here ..........
Engine oil/filter-changes must be every 4500 MILES absolute max; (that's approx every 7200 kms).
If the car does lots of shortish journeys, like mine does, reduce the intervals to every 2500 miles, (roughly every 4000 kms).
These service intervals are borne of the experiences of many tractor-owning OOFers - take our word on this one mate!

leaving the oil in too long will not only cause increased wear, but also decrease cooling, which on this lump leads to cracked heads...
-
there is no difference between new and old engine oil in connection with cooling...
