Title: Battery issue

I am having probs with the battery holding charge in my 1999 2.0 auto saloon, it was sitting up for a few months, went out for a long drive about 6weeks ago, it having sat up at me dads for bout 6 months! Since then shes been sitting up for a week or 2 as I had breather jet issues, (sorted) but after a jump she runs away fine, did 20 miles, arrive home, ignition off and try to start again - dead ;(. the battery thats in her is a 55AHR which is new, the one that was in was a 66AHR, I have no manuals with her so not sure which is correct.

you may need to check the alternator charging rate

any kwik fit, ats etc etc
they do a free battery and alternator check
(thats as far as you want to go with them)

or even just get a volt meter and test the charge rate yourself :y

I would say the battery is furbered because it has been sat for a long time. Just to make sure put a battery charger on it overnight

You say its a new battery, but how new ? If any battery has been allowed to deep discharge (as in go totally flat) it is going to be knackered. No matter how new its is, its unlikely it will recover and ever hold a full charge.

As other have said, check the alternator is putting a charge in, if it is then its new battery time :(

ETA: 20 miles isnt enough of a drive to put a decent charge in even if the battery has somehow survived being discharged. Stick on a charger overnight.

Yeah, I would say tis knackered. Left it charging last night and she still wont turn over. I was wondering about the 55AHR battery which was ( nearly) new, the one that was in was a 66AHR....is the 55 not beefy enough? I will get a tester tomorrow and check the alternator, other than that its new battery time.
