What are the symptoms of a faulty MAF sensor on a 2.5td ?

when mine was broke, Engine would rev upto 5k when not in gear but only to 2k when in gear and driving, unplugged it and it would drive normally.

Allbeit a bit sluggish till the turbo kicked in :y

Hmm...not got either of those symptoms. :-/
I've changed the injection pump just over a week ago so the timing may still be out slightly. Tried setting it manually (not got the adaptor and guage) but it's not quite right. Starts ok, hot or cold, but stalls on gear changes with a flash from the EML when cold.
It's ok when warmed up, but not perfect. I think I need to get it set up properly.
