Hi everybody this is my second post unfortunatly its a problem,in a rush i managed to snap off a portion of my key in the door lock :-[,of which i removed but i then needed to get home so i thought maybe if i put the piece into the ignition and slowly put the rest of the key in while turning it may start, nope that did not work so i locked the car(remote) & i managed to get a lift home, today my father in law(mechanic) and me(welder/fab+jack of all)went back to hopefully sort the problem,we stripped the casing to get to the barrel held on with sheer bolts :( well after a great deal of hammering/chiseling they were removed ;D,we then tried to start the car with the back module removed but it only spun the starter not allowing it to fire,we discovered that there's a sensor surrounding the lock barrel/casing that must be alligned for it to start :(,well the barrel is removed with part of the key inside which i cannot remove but now the steering lock is released so we can tow it home my question is what can i do now? im thinking a locksmith to remove the part of the key but can i get a new key cut with my key in two parts or can a copy be obtained with just the serial numbers, I could possibly weld it together but then would it be perfecly alligned to line up all the pins in the lock to release?, could i just replace the barrel with one from a breakers yard or are the sensors in the lock matched to that of the sensor on the car?,also my remote central locking is very tempermental sometimes not working but im hoping that it maybe just the battery getting low otherwise im going to have to change the lock on the door aswell if the key cannot be copied, well there you have it im hoping someone can give any help or advice as to what i can do
thanks in advance :)

There is chip in the key that ativates the transponder.
you can try positioning the key near the transponder then it should start
-
As above... Transponder chip needs to be close to receiver ring surrounding ignition barrel. :y :y
IIRCC you can get a new key from the dealers :-/ :-/
If you get a barrel and key from a breaker you'll need the ECU (I think) or to transfer the transponder chip over to the new key.

wow thats a speedy reply ;D,thanks very much Bent Valve & Lazydocker your help is much appreciated :y im going out now to give it a go and see if it starts then decide if to get new££££? otherwise change the barrel and fit a secondhand one and like you say swap over the transponder chip and see if that does it
thanks again guys :y
