ok guys, was all for selling up there until i read that a DIY LPG system could be bought for £899. compared to nearly £2500 for a fitted system in Northern Ireland i would love to fit the DIY system and keep her!
so, the system at £899 was from James omegamechanic.com website, no offence to James, is it a decent system? is there better or worse out there?!
any help appreciated to keep an OOF member in an omega lol!

i belive thats the same STAG kit thats fitted to a number of cars here, does the job nicely from reports i heard.
Have a search for Kevin Woods install, he did DIY, although DIY is actually an insult it was a proffesional job, and i can't see a garage doing any better than what he did.
You do need some skills & well stocked tool shed to do it though

Same kit as James is talking about. It's quite easy to fit, if you're comfortable with spanners, and runs very well. There are a few of us now running around with this kit and it's cracking :y :y :y
I purchased mine direct from the supplier and had it shipped to home but I don't know about shipping to Paddy Land ::) ::) ::)
The only thing you need to check on is insurance and certification requirements... Not sure how you'll stand over there with getting it certified :-/ :-/ :-/

You need to allow for a loss of up to 20% :o :o :o
In reality the loss is less than that. I get about 23mpg when the MID shows 26mpg :y :y :y
All things considered, with LPG now around or less than half the price of petrol, I get the £ for £ equivalent of 45-50mpg :y :y :y
Without hanging about too ::) ::) ::)

ummm i like the sound of this more and more hahaha, 50mpg equivalent sounds good!
Could it be installed in a day? starting at 9am say?

mpg equivalent is dependant on type of driving etc...
As for fitting in a day... I'd say yes, it is possible with 3/4 of you, but I wouldn't like to see the result! :o :o Oh, and you'd need to have a manifold pre-drilled and injector nozzles installed.
I used to earn my living with the spanners and it took me 3 easy days, no rushing! But then I wanted it to be a professional installation to be proud of :y :y :y
If you do it in a day I doubt you'd have stuck to the LPGA COP II so it may be dangerous! :o :o ::) ::)

Kev, Markie and I took 2 days to convert my saloon - and the tank was already installed
You won't do it in a day, not properly

But I am led to believe it was not rushed and done methodically and professionally :y :y :y
I would allow at least 3 days to do it TBH.
But you can do it in stages to keep the car drivable. Fit tank one day, front end the next and then wiring and pipe runs on another :y :y :y
Takes longer to decide where to mount stuff, drill holes and wire it than the actual fitting IME :y

lol no problem guys, thanks very much for your help.
kevins thread though, most of the pictures aren't working which is a shame!

It's just the browser timing out (there's a lot of info there!) Try refreshing a few times, it worked for me :y :y :y

Another query my dad brought up...
Do you have to have a certifcate to say the system has been fitted correctly for insurance purposes? If its a DIY job how do you get one?

Depends who you're insured with.
Basically you need to find an approved installer to do a safety inspection after it's done... It won't be a LPGA certificate, so to speak, but should be sufficient for insurance purposes :y :y

further research has revealed 7-8 authorised fitters in NI now. Whats the going price for one of these outfits to install the system?

Around £2K for the reputable guys on the mainland to convert a V6. Some real cowboys around though. :-/

Personally I wouldn't let an "Authorised Fitter" anywhere near my car except to inspect it! I've seen too many bad ones :o :o :o :o :o
That said, the guys who did Entwood's conversion would pass my high standards :y :y :y

I had the annual check/service done last month ... all went well .. and I asked about that .. due to the comments made by those who've seen it ...
Simple answer was ... the "usual" place is drivers side between the brake reservoir and the header tank, but as you have the extra heating pump it all gets too difficult, so we put in the space by the horn. The extra water piping is cheaper than the time taken to move everything to fit it in the usual place. The V6 warms up so quickly that it makes virtually no difference to the changeover time, theres only about a pint extra water. An advantage is it makes changing the LPG filter a piece of doddle.
So the filter was changed, the system put on a diagnostic and the calibrations checked - all OK and nothing changed apparently, the valve lube rate checked, all pipes/fittings checked and - to my surprise - they even did something in the boot at that big box thing... quite what I'm not sure !! all for £54 inc VAT which I thougfht was pretty reasonable considereing I was there nearly an hour . :)

imho install time is greatly dependant on prior knowledge and research, most of which i found on here, special thanks to Kevin and Lazy d. :y
With Lazys spare inlet manifold i was able to fit the front end kit in a weekend, just needed Kevin to run all the wires into the relay box and ecu by the battery, a far better idea than running wires all over the place. I beleive he has now quoted the relevant pin out numbers on here somewhere.
Then fitted the rear end kit( dunut tank in spare wheel well so diff to those in the guides) which took me longer to do without the formentioned knowledge in that area, not helped by too short a length of polly pipe and haveing to modify the bracket. >:(
in short, be certain what you do before you do it. Esp if you need the car on Monday morning.
Ask on here or visit an approved installer as to whats required for safety certs, there are some good ones out there but some on here have had bad experiences with the gents from the lpga.
Re certs, lpga approved install certificates are only issued by proffessional installers on their own work, you wont get one of those if you diy. You will get a safety certificate from them for diy which, as said, IS sufficiant for insurance.( Direct line implied to me diy installs are not covered, they simply where not aware that a safety cert for diy existed, and said that only approved install certs would sufice. They where wrong and i have the appology letter to prove it ;D )
Of course, I still have the spare manifold by the way. :)
Considering lpg is an economy item, diy is the only way to go as pay back will be acheived in less than half the time re a pro install.
Hth :)
