I have just been to vxhall to buy new filters  etc and have been given a paper insert fuel filter  i queried this, as on mine it looks like a screw on canister, but was told there are three differnt bmw lumps and on checking my reg he thought that was correct. it is a 1999 2.5td estate. before i unscrew filter does anyone know which is the correct one for my engine?

For the U25TD & X25TD engines (early ones) you will need Part Number 93183042 which as you say is a screw on one @ £8.44 + VAT

The only other one listed for the 2.5 is for the Y25TD which was the twin cam engine which is a metal canister with two pipes on top and a pressure sensor in the middle of the pipes.

I dought it will be this one as Vauxhalls don't even hold this in stock and is only avaliable from Opel.

If you have been given 93190458 which is a paper one then thats wrong as thats for a 2.0TD & 2.2TD

Take it back and look at him like this >:(

 hope that helps
 Cheers

Drop in paper element on mine.

Edit: Pay no attention to me...just noticed the word "Fuel"....not oil filter.  ::)
 Yes, screw on jobbie.
Pour a bottle of Diesel Magic into the filter before fitting and run the car at about 1500rpm for a minute or so, then take it for a short run.
