Title: Intermittant stalling
Post by: Toby on 16 July 2009, 19:11:43
Right for a few weeks now I've had this problem. Occurs very much out of the blue. Approach a junction, drop the clutch and engine dies and dash lights up. Restarting can be difficult and revs have to be kept up to keep going. Hesitates sometimes too. It'll stop and return to normal as suddenly as it starts

Now I know I ought to wait til I have it Tech 2'd but as there is no EML on I thought that might not show anything up. The only fault code stored is 74, which I'm starting to think is an old one

My thoughts are:

Crank Sensor (but have no fault code)
Dispack starting to break down
Cat failure resulting in a blockage (would explain why a new cat back system has not cured the raspiness)

Any other thoughts? It's getting a little bit silly now when it happens in the middle of a roundabout.

Thanks

Sounds very much like a ICV clean is overdue, when was it last done including breather system :question.

I have no clue. So could be that it's never been done.

I will add that to actually get anywhere when it happened yesterday I had to bounce it off the limiter at standstill to get the revs up. I noticed then that I could smell a horrible burning. Could also feel the heat in the car. I honestly thought something had caught fire.

Any pointers on the breather system? Where the pipes are located, how to clean them etc etc

Sounds like you're cam cover gaskets are leaking oil onto your manifold/exhaust. This happens when your breathers become blocked - follow the how to in maintenance... :y

Indeed, just a shame this one seems to be all trouble. My other one isn't.

Just a quick question on the breather cleaning, is the breather box then same as the vent housing? I've seen them referred to in the Maintainence guide and just want to be sure I don't miss something.
