As my keyfobs are pretty tatty, and the internals have been mended by Martin on more than one occasion, I have purchased 2 complete keys of eblay for a decent enough price and they are in good condition.
My intention is to swap the "horseshoe" that holds the actual key from a tatty one to a decent one.
As the transponder is in the horseshoe part, does it need a chat with a tech2 to work or does it just need resynching to make the remote part work or some other combination ???
If it needs a Tech2 ... will one be going to Newent ???
:)

Why don't you put your key fob's guts into the new fobs? Your old transponder chip needs to stay with your car ...... then no rquirement for Tech II

The "guts" have been repaired more than once ... the replacements are, at the moment, pristine. That is one of the reasons for the change.
The transponder will stay as its in the horseshoe ... I just don't know if anything needs doing, tech2 wise .. to the "guts" as you put it !!!!
I know I could just swap horseshoes and try .. but I thought I'd ask first ..... :)

tech2 wise, both the transponder and the remote have to be programmed. So if you use your existing transponder, its only the remote.
Assuming its fixed before then, I suspect my tech2 will be there.

Many thanks for the info .. I won't fiddle then ... I'll just wait to give you some dosh at Newent... :)

Don't rely on me - dunno if mine will be fixed by then :'(

Just had it done in June .. :( ... I'll see how things go .. I have two working but "tatty" keys .. and two smart but non-working ... so there's no great rush at the moment. If things change I'll probably give you a yell and motor down anyway !!! but one might turn up at a meet anyway ... so why are you not at Newent ... !!!! :)
