Title: Clutch Advice Please
Post by: Boiler Man on 25 July 2009, 19:54:34
Hi Guys
It looks like I need to replace my Clutch Slave Cylinder. It or a pipe around it seems to be leaking badly. :'( (2.2 Dti on an 03 plate)

So I was thinking is it worth replacing the clutch at the same time as I have the gearbox off. (Done 160,000m) The clutch grip is good, but I can't afford to leave the car of the road if I find it is low once I've got it stripped down. I need the car to make a living.

I've been quoted £500  :o for a replacement clutch and cylinder, fitted. It was only £350 a couple of year ago for my 2 Ltr.

I've decided to do it myself, next weekend. But I'm not sure what exactly to order. I know I need a Clutch plate, Pressure plate and Slave cylinder.

But do I need a thrust bearing also or does that normally come with the Slave cylinder. :-/

I was looking at these on fleebay.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

The buypartsby LUK clutches are the same make as the originals and will be identical to the one you take out.

They're pretty good.

Delivery is a couple of days I think. I've used buypartsby a few times and they've been very good.

I'd replace the friction plate, pressure plate and slave cylinder. If the cylinder is leaking the plates will probably be contaminated, and at 160k miles the old clutch is probably on its way out.

The LUK kits often come with or without the slave cylinder depending on which kit you order.

The job is fairly straightforward. Disconnecting the gearstick is probably the most fiddly part.
