Had my car develop a weird misfire yesterday. Had fairly little fuel in the tank so topped it up this morning but it's not fixed it? Thought it might have been a blocked fuel filter or something at first?
Sounds like its running on 5cyls? Any ideas?
Cheers, Gav

maybe dis pack mate. what fault codes you getting?
-
Not getting any lights flashing on the dash? Is that where i'd get the fault code or do i have to plug a code reader in?
Searching the forum and google, i was thinking it could be to do with the HT leads? I have a leaky rocker cover gasket if that makes a difference?
Cheers for the help!

you need to do the pin test if you look you can find out how in maintance section. do you have oil in spark plug wells. if so get it out and replace plugs. :D :D :D

Ive had a missfire on my elite. I had a badly leaking HBV which i replaced then noticed oil on top of the drivers bank cam cover. Had new gasket, leads and plug change but still got missfire. I think my DISpack needs changing now.
-
Forgot to mention... did paperclip test and no faults found, except code 135 which i have been told i can ignore, while engine running and missfiring.
-
Yep there's oil in the spark plug wells, but i've found the real culprit!! The middle HT lead on the right hand side as you look from the front is snapped in two!!
So.....it looks like a pig to do! How easy is it? And how much are leads?
-
Its not TOO hard to do, its just VERY fiddly.
Not sure about prices for new leads.
-
i can check with vx tomorrow for you as ive a tc card. got leads not that long ago for mine but cant remeber price.

Glad you found your problem but we seem to be missing the usual cause of oil in plug wells and the following missfire that often results.....Blocked breathers, caused usually by too infrequent oil changes. Partly down to vx doubling the oil change service schedule afaik, to impress fleet managers by halfing service costs, and hence sell more cars.
Result, marmite for oil and blocked breathers esp. if you throw in alot of short journeys. This increases crank case pressure and the first seal to go is cam covers allowing oil to fill the plug wells, cooking your plug leads in oil and rotting the rubber allowing the spark to escape.
In short, if you have oil in your plug wells, first clean breather system. Then change cam cover gaskits and o rings. THEN once your sure to keep oil out of plug wells, check plugs leads and dis pac in that order due to cost and agro level.
Change oil every 5k, guide on breathers in maintenance. Hth
Ps may well be teaching you all to suck eggs but better safe..... :-)

I would have thought if you bought em from VX the price would be very memorable ;D
-
That would be good candyman cheers. Was pricing the leads up from Euro Car Parts last night and it wasnt too bad. I'll definitely get the cam cover gaskets from vx though.
Once i get the Skyline up and running, which should be tonight, the Omega will be going in its slot in the shed and i'll do the breathers, cam cover gaskets, plugs and leads so that it doesnt happen again!
-
Just to note that my camcover gaskets leaked oil all over the plugs but the breathers were immaculate.
No known cause.

Poorly fitted, or none-VX previous parts?
