Title: does this sound a decent rate for a job?

Right having my new sump fitted soon and after spending £135 on the sump and £47 on its gasket ( dam vauxhall dealers!!!  :o >:( :'( ) i been to a local garage and hes said he'll charge £30 an hr for the job but hes not sure how long the job would take, as he thinks the engine might need lifting to get the sump off, does this sound like a good rate and how long ( if anyone has done this before) does sump removal take?

£30 an hour is pretty cheap, I think to change the whole sump will take a while, it gets a bit involved, not sure how long though, no doubt others have changed a sump and will give you a better answer

only the lower steel half of the sump is being replaced as its rusted right through  :o

I usually expect for any 'tradesman' to charge up to £50ph - below that is a bonus. £30ph is what my local ind. vx place charges.

I think that £30 is to do the whole job.Not per hour. >:( >:( >:(,The mecaniks in UK are total ripoff

The lower part is a lot less involved, I doubt you need to move the engine to do it

It depends how fast the mechanic is going to work.

ive had a quick look underneath myself and the front and middle bolts holding the sump on are easy to get to put theres about 4-6 right at the back which seem to be impossible to remove without removing several large bit of metal which look like they are something to do with the axel

£30-00 an hour is the going rate for a good 'mechanic'.
 Vauxhall dealers charge from £65-00 per hour for a 'technician' who only change the part they are told to, it may not be the cause of the problem, but "that's what the code said", sadly most are 'braindead', however very well paid.
