Hi there long time no post :(
Lost concentration after night shift, hit kerb at >50mph, tore tyre sidewall out, trashed alloy cosmetically. Garage say new track rod(s), maybe hub = new discs & pads = £500-600 once allignment done. Central locking broken on one door, electric window also. Rusting on both lower rear door corners, 106000 miles but sound engine. Thermostat needs sorting out as no heat for miles in winter. 3 months too new for scrappage scheme unless go to Nissan then ££ per month for a f***ing Note. Still wondering if cheaper per month than running thirsty old girl.
Really stuck here - love car but not sure if time to call it quits - anyone offer any words of advice?

I would keep it, don't think it would be to difficult to get parts & fit them yourself saving a good few £££s over that garage quote. Maybee someone local to you has a tc card if you don't have one

Repair it with second hand parts, it wont cost that much.

depends how good you are with spanners. As said if it was me, repair with second hand parts just to get it back on the road. Do the superficial stuff later or as and when time and cash allows.

Thanks for the advice - think you are right about the diy option. Just need to fit it in around job/kid/baby/new house! The long bored days of my youth tinkering with cars seem far off, but I can still wield a spanner ;)
Main issue is that I have always been a bit nervous of anything suspension/brake related - would help if they had done a facelift Haynes manual, though I have a digital copy of the earlier one.
So, next question - anyone got some straight secondhand trackrods?

If you don't need the car as daily transport keep it and fix as a project (depending on your personal circumstances and mechanical skills of course) You'll have all the help you need here.
If you require a vehicle for such transport and are concerned about running costs then a smaller vehicle such as the Note would be an alternative.
I would keep and repair everytime - but then I've the time and space to do it.

pre face haynes is still usefull, your parts will be much the same. Wishbones are the same across the range for example.
On here there as several guides in maintenance section etc. Have a brouse through. Not too bad a job imho.

think you have been quoted way too much there to be fixed!
New Discs & Pads = £80
CDX/CD alloys are cheap enough, no one usually wants them, most want MV6/Elite, so they can be picked up cheap, just PM any of the members breaking cars. MarkeyMark should have some. Also remember seeing AndyV6 has some nice alloys needed a re-furb.
Track rods are not that expensive either, i would DIY fix it. :y

Cool, many thanks everyone. I currently work less than 2 miles from work so project sounds like a good idea, will have to schedule the time somehow though!
Can anyone tell me - based on the accident I had (high speed kerbing to nearside wheel, car still goes in a straight(ish) line but steering wheel now at an angle and rumbling noise from damaged area) - is it likely to just be a matter of track rods or more serious?
My garage is very good but pricey! They are happy to do the allignment if I do the rest though... :)

Before you spend time/money on repairs I'd get a bodyshop to look at it - you may have moved the suspension tower on that side or, worse, moved the 'chassis' where the wishbone is attached. If you have then it's probably killed the car, as the only way to re-align it accurately is on a jig, and you're looking at serious £££ for that. :(
