Windows open, hurtling down the bypass i noticed a high pitch whistle that increased in crescendo with engine speed, from about 3500 upwards in fact, could that be an air leak?
You can't hear it at all below 3000.

woo, Bathurst edition Omega aye? Unless you have a supercharger under there then would def. start looking for air leak as you say. Def a whistle though? Not a screatch from a baring or belt? Tensioner ok? Whens the belt due?
Get an assistant to rev it while you listen under the bonnet. :-)

def sounds like a whistle, belt changed along with HG 3 or 4 months ago, pitch of noise def changes with revs of engine.
Gonna get colleague wedged under bonnet while i rev it i think... It's an odd noise.
Haven't tried repeating it at standstill.... might give that a go also.

UPDATE
It doesn't make the noise at standstill and revving the engine....
That makes it something to do with engine drive output i reckon....
