Can anybody tell me if the '99 MV6 is considered to be the "lowered sports chassis" or what exactly the "lowered sports chassis" is ?
Apparently it makes a difference as to which steering drag link is suitable....

Retail MV6 is, 'Special' (ie, ex-plod) MV6 may or may not be (lots of variations on the ex-plod ones)

i am under the impression,re 3.2, that plod is stiffer than customer mv6. I have plod, which could be any variation, and find it "crashy" over bumps, was hoping it would be more like the customer mv6 3.2 as another members on here, totally differant and better ride quality. Although will reserve judgment until i get rid of these crap tyres.

Mine's an ex-plod 3.0, you can tell it sits lower than a standard poverty-spec car. My ride isn't crashy though, just firm... body control over speed bumps is excellent.

my mv6 is far to soft seen skodas go round corners at speed better than my mig :(

OK, so it appears that I can't buy the centre steering link from a motor factor for my car, I guess the only option is Vauxhalls, bet that's gonna cost me.... :-(

This one states "Except lowered sports chassis", but I still can't see a reason why it's not suitable. :-/

So the centre tie rod on MV6's differ from all other Miggys.
Ok, but why ? MV6 shocks and springs are different, but I thought that was it. If there is a difference then surely it would be beneficial to change the C.T.R and any related components when lowering a non MV6 Mig.

Have also seen Markdtm mention mv6 has thicker anti roll bars....? But not sure if plod only or all mv6 models.

Am always a bit wary of there descriptions esp if non vx who dont always get it right themselves.

'99 - prefacelift?
These as std had a normal suspension, it wasn't until the facelift that the -15mm chassis was introduced. You should be have some idea if it was a plod car. Post a pic and somebody will soon tell you if it is sitting low for a '99 model.
The twist on this is that irmscher offered a -30mm kit which i am led to belive uses eibach or billie shox.
Post a pic to start and masure from the arch lip to the centre of the wheel.

It definately has lowered springs, I fitted them. I just need to replace the centre steering arm with the correct one, maybe I should go for the lowered spec arm regardless ? I assume this arm has relocated track rod location points to reduce bump steer with lowered suspension.... Problem is, this arm doesn't appear to be commonly available..

I fitted my '94 Elite with 40mm lower springs and standard height, slightly up-rated Monroe shocks. That's all. Didn't change any other steering components. No need. It handled really well. A huge improvement.
What makes you say you need to change to this "lowered spec" C.T.R ?
If there are no issues, then don't go fixing something that isn't broken. :y

I only need to change it because one of the ball joints has play in it, otherwise it was fine.

Are you sure it's not the normal one you need ? :-/ After all, if you lowered the car yourself, then it's not the "lowered sports chassis" originally.
Edit: :-? Hang on...one of the ball joints does move, the other is fixed.

I changed mine a few months back. Both the original and replacement item had one side that moved, the other side looked like a ball joint but was solid.

Well I can't disagree as I haven't looked at one off of the car, but it sounds very strange as both joints must have to move when the steering is turned ?

OK, finally got to the bottom of this, for anyone who finds themselves in the same situation, the "Lower sports chassis" refers to certain versions of the face lift model only, so if like me you have a pre-face lift model, the commonly available part fits :-)
BTW only £56 delivered from Buypartsby and looks like a quality piece too.

Good price :y £85 is about the average. I think I paid £14.00 (ex. p&p) for my 2nd hand jobbie.
Incedently, is one side fixed solid and the other a ball joint ?

Yes, you're absolutely right, one side is a ball joint, the other just a pivot, strange but true.

Yep, I sat and looked at it for while too. Didn't help that I had a 2nd hand jobbie, so couldn't be 100% certain it was not worn.
Much more play in my original and the chappy said he'd checked it, so on it went.
