Title: difference between Y22 aand Z22
Post by: mathewst on 19 August 2009, 11:53:13
Does anyone know what is the difference between these two engines?
From all parts I've seen so far they seem to be the same but I guess they are different but don't know
Maybe this info could come useful one day.

only the diesels ;)

the 2.2 in other cars is chain, the omega belt.

if worked on omega and vectra 2.2's.  they are a world apart.

Hmmm now I'm a bit confused.
First I was refering to petrol migs (sorry forgot to mention it)
Is the Z22 petrol or diesel engine?
I thought that it is the petrol engine like a later version of Y22 and that it has cambelt

time for full names then...

Petrol only (mentioned diesel in response to any migs had chain...)

the omega has the Y22XE, dont think it went in anything else.
others such as vectra got Z22SE which is a totally differnt design, chain, not belt, different electrics, and prob many more.

Hmm so than some parts I've seen are actually mistakenly named.
I was looking for camshaft sensor on german ebay, and there they said it was for Omega 2.2 Z22XE and Omega 2.2 Y22XE

may have been leading you up the garden path here....

looks like there may have been different 2.2 engine's used.

this could also explain why some can be pedal tested and some can't

looks like at least 3 different 2.2 engines, 2 of which used in omega depending on age.

The Omega had the either Y22XE or Z22XE which is a Belt driven Twin cam 16 valve engine. Cast iron Block with a cast Ally head. Looks just like a X20XEV.
This engine can also be found in the MK2 Frontera.

The Vectra, Astra Etc had the Z22SE or Z22YH, This is a chain driven twin cam 16v and an all alloy block and head.

Cheers

Emissions:

Y= euro 3 and Z= euro 4. Think the phyical engines are the same might be the electrics that are different
