Im thinking about ordering one and keeping it in the boot!
That said, I have left the old sensor hanging in place as it didn’t completely pack up, it just started to miss fire and splutter every now and then ;D

Incidentally how long does a crank sensor last for? 90,000 miles? If so I won't be needing to carry a spare one for awhile. ;D

I had a genuine Vx one pack up completely in less than 6 months! To get it replaced foc by Vx you now have to refit it and get the car booked in to Vx service - they will check its correctly fitted (!!!) and if faulty replace foc. The fact the car wouldn't start and the nearest dealership is 12 miles away means getting the car trailered in - hardly worth the effort for a £40 sensor >:( Another Vx con >:( >:(

My crank sensor went last year. I had to get my car trailered into the dealer. The truck driver thought there was nothing wrong with it as it started up immediately.
It was a bit more funny down the other end when he decided to park the car further away from the dealership. he drove the car off the trailer and it konked out on him. He then had to push it about 50 yards into the dealership. I had done a dissapearing act into the dealership reception by then. ;D Didn't fancy pushing in 40 deg C heat with high humidity.

I would have thought from a legal stand point that the onus is on them at their cost to prove it's U/S if under guarantee as you bought it to do a job it obviously wasn't up to >:(.

I never go on a long journey without packing the spare. Its just part of the routine, like checking fluids and tyre pressures before setting off :-[

Why do crank sensors last so much less time than cam sensors?

Why do crank sensors last so much less time than cam sensors?
they dont - 4 pot cam sensors always fail ;D
with v6 crank sensors, its suspected to be the cabling that goes brittle (due to a poor design on cable route).

Thanks for that bit of knowledge Jamie :y.
