Been driving for a few days with a bit of a silly problem.
2000 "W" 2.0 ltr 16 valve auto
driving along, engine stutters, but not stalls, picks up again. Few second later the EML comes on.
immediate sensation is the pickup is rough but not trying to die off at all.
If I pull up and restart the engine the issue dissappears for an indeterminate period.
There is currently a small oil leak from the front of the bell housing, definitely ATF. will check the level at the weekend)
The issue MAY be linked to the gear change 1st to 2nd
Only 0335 (Incorrect RPM Signal ) logged when paper clipping. (with the engine off)
suggestions appreciated.

Progress to date.
Checked the ATF, that was OK.
Had a crank sensor sent down by Andyc (Thanks), tried to trace the wire round to see how dificult it was going to be! (found the sensor in a stupid position behind the dipstick tube >:(
After looking to see if there was a "how to" on the site went out to tackle the job today.
With the car on ramps, I didn't fancy messing with the aircon compressor, so tried to undo the engine mounting bracket to gain access. Couldn't get any decent purchase to undo the bolts so tried to attack it from above :-?
After taking the dipstick tube out, it took about 90 minutes to remove the sensor, (it rained for 60 of hem so I went inside ;) )
Tools I used for the job are;
13mm pivot head rachet spanner
3/8 thumb socket drive
E10 torx socket

You need a bit of dexterity and patience.
I found it about the same difficulty as changing the V6 ABS ECU.
hope this helps someone :y
Forgot to add, problem seems to have been solved :)
